The Role
My placement with E.ON Energy within the Environment Team incredibly exceeded my expectations! The experience and the insights gained in the Energy industry are absolutely invaluable for my future career.
My colleagues in the Environment Team were very friendly, supportive and always looked after each other.
My manager was always supportive and available whenever I needed guidance or help. I also enjoyed the fact that I was given enough flexibility and freedom to manage my workload and also work from home occasionally.
During the first weeks, the workload was very little which was a bit frustrating for me. That however immediately changed after discussions with my supervisors as I expressed my willingness to get involved in more projects.
As soon as I got involved in more projects, I was actually surprised of how much responsibility I was given - which is of course a great thing.
From environmental reporting, auditing to co-founding an energy start-up within the company: My year with E.ON taught me way more than my university degree! All skills gained will without any doubt be of great benefit in my future career and postgraduate studies.
The Company
I have to say that even though the office was huge and very impressive, most desks were empty and there wasn't much going on. Most colleagues also generally ate their lunch at the desk which didn't make things better.
Although my team was quite organised and prepared for setting up my internship with them, I was a bit disappointed by HR. There was a much stronger focus on Graduates than Undergraduates, which was unfair on us.
As I was given the chance to co-found a start-up as part of the company's accelerator programme, I would say that E.ON invested incredibly a lot in my personal development. It is however worth noting, that this wasn't originally planned to be part of my placement.

Even though, I enjoyed my time with E.ON, I didn't apply for the Grad scheme as it didn't align with my passions and interests (Renewable Energy/Environment). Moreover, I think that working for such a big company is great in terms of learning and developing but I couldn't imagine working there for the rest of my life(-which most people do!).
The Culture
Not really-rather an ongoing competion of who is involved in the best project and who is the less bored! My colleagues in my team however were really lovely but I would only spend time outside of work with only a few of them.
Even though the office was in Coventry, I lived in Birmingham and I really do not recommend living in Coventry!! I didn't think that living and socialising in Birmingham was too expensive and never had any financial problems.
I was only in the office in the area where I worked (basically in the middle of nowhere) and then went straight back to Birmingham.
Maybe there were but I didn't really hear of anything.
