    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have definitely enjoyed my placement as it has been an eye opener into the world of work once I graduate from University. It has been a challenging but rewarding year in every aspect of my role and would recommend a placement year at Hays. I think it has developed my core skills but also enabled me to learn new skills working on things I have never before and developing myself as an employee.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt valued from the first day I started all the way through to the end of my placement and it felt as though I have been treated in the exact same way as permanent employees rather than just another intern. Both management and other employees have positively reviewed my work and given me good feedback and also constructive criticism on how to improve.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I think I was given sufficient support from management and enough to help me when I needed it. Managers were often around to support but sometimes as expected were quite busy so maybe there could have been a bit more guidance. Overall I think this was enough and should the managers not be around, other colleagues would be able to assist.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think the balance of work during my placement was nearly perfect as I always had work to do during the day which made the days go so quickly! On occasions I would have more than usual meaning I couldn't get everything done on the same day but this is to be expected in any job. There were some days when it was quieter which is also welcomed due to the nature of the role and how busy I could be.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility in my role which I certainly did not expect before I started. I was working alongside my manager who had a large number of contractors and was liaising with them on a daily basis. I was also expected to talk to client to arrange interviews and send important documents to. Further on during my placement, I was made the point of contact for CL1 recruitment for the whole of the UK regularly working with directors from Hays and also senior management from Capita which was very rewarding.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed core employability skills throughout my time at Hays which will help me once I return to University but also once I graduate. Working with candidates and clients on a daily basis means my communication skills have developed significantly and are essential for any job role. Working for a team of 12 has also improved my organisational, team working and proven my reliability which are also very important. Amongst this I have also learnt a lot of recruitment skills should I feel this is the right career path for me.
