    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement at hays. It has been a great insight into the world of work and I will be able to take a lot back to university. There were quite a few interns at Hays which has been really fun. My manager and direct team have been a great support to me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have been extremely valued by my colleagues, I have been treated as a permanent employee rather than just an intern. I have also been given so much responsibility which in turn makes me feel valued as they trust me to do anything with regards to calling clients and candidates.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is an intensive training programme here at Hays where they support you on the job and in the class room. You are trained on the job every day with the support from managers and colleagues. The training pack is extremely useful and I have learnt so much from the classroom sessions.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am extremely busy. I manage a temp desk which is always busy, I have to control so many candidates and clients. There hasn't been a moment in my internship where I have sat here wondering what I should do. You can always call candidates and clients in the market to get more knowledge.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given so much responsibility. I am working with many clients some of whom are top tier investment banks. I am controlling the whole recruitment process from liaising with clients on interviews and controlling candidates. Hays have not treated me like an intern throughout my placement as I have had so much responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have so much market knowledge now that I will be able to implement into my essays. I am also writing my dissertation based on what I have learnt here at Hays. I am also knowledgeable in the interview process and how to write your CV. Hays has definitely improved my work ethic.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the general atmosphere in the office is busy and work hard play hard. It is a competitive environment as it is a sales role which means that people are competing against each other. I think this is a good thing as people push other people to achieve the most out of their day.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The whole placement is set up very well. There is a clear structure to the placement programme from training to general day to day tasks. There is always plenty of feedback from managers and directors. There are also lots of interns within the business which means they set up meetings to get feedback from all of us.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Hays invests a lot of training and development into their interns. We have a structured 12 week training programme which develops the necessary skills to be a recruitment consultant. We always get feedback from our managers which helps with our personal development. Being a target driven role means that we are able to see the number of calls, interviews, and meetings we do.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am not sure as of yet whether I will be going back to Hays. I have had a great time at Hays here and if I were to come back I would be delighted. There are also a lot of opportunities within hays when you are working there which is very appealing.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My team is made up of quite a few people, they are all really fun and we go out together on Fridays. As there are quite a few interns in Hays we all socialising together. Hays is a big company and at the end of the periods we have intensives and rewards which is always fun.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive and I have rented very close to the city centre. I have had to get a student loan on top of my salary this year as I had to pay rent but I have been fine living wise. You just have to be careful with your money and make sure that you do not spend it pointlessly.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in London is great. There are so many places to go, so many things to do and I have had such a good year exploring the scenery. I am definitely going to come back to live in London when I finish university as I love the city. So glad that I took a job here.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I have a lot of friends in London therefore, I didn't get involved in any other activities as I wanted to spend time exploring London. I could have got involved in a sports team however, I wanted to take some time out. There are so many fun places to go in London.
