    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyable year. Great overall experience and skill building.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Plenty of praise in and amongst individuals and the group when you place someone, make some money, find a lead or a new role etc. Plenty of recognition mapped in to the company through reward schemes too.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Plenty of experienced people on hand to offer support, their 2 cents or a helping hand. Not just your manager! Training days are held and you get the impression you can go to anyone with a problem and be offered guidance to a solution.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Recruitment is impossible to predict in terms of traffic - yes there are slower days where job flow suffers but on busy days.. you are BUSY!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a role the same as any new starter - 360 full recruitment. I know some interns are just resourcers or have reduced roles. I was in charge of my own business development, candidate management and desk management.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills focussed around communication, negotiation, confidence and selling etc all massively improved. I now find all interactions using these skills to be much much less of a challenge. Sets you up very well for the future.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Good atmosphere. Recruitment generally has a higher turnover as lots of people think they can do the job but do not have the soft skills to make it. Plenty of people in it for the long haul too! Incentive days, incentive trips etc are a common theme.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall you are mainly left to get to it and be a consultant for a year - which is good. I personally wouldn't want to be chopping and changing jobs and going on loads of different insight days etc. This largely depends on whether you are looking to experience difference areas of a business or just become great at one job.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • New permanent consultants usually get 2 training trips to London. Interns only get 1.. In my instance I was expected to do the same job as them in that timing - with less formal training.

  • Company Parties/Events

  • Very good progression. Structured. You can really travel upwards in <5 years.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely. I was the only student but everyone is young and outgoing.

  • N/A.

  • Standard town nightlife.

  • No real activities. Just nights out.
