    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed meeting some of the people I did but the work I did was mundane, repetitive and mind numbing. Working in a sales environment is a great challenge as it's so target driven but as an intern there is no reward for meeting or exceeding targets so there is no motivation for you to make money for other people in the business, especially considering the very small salary we are given in return for long hours and repetitive work.

    1/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got on well with my colleagues and the social side of Hays has been great.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was great in supporting me but left part way through my placement and I had no direct management or guidance for the rest of the year.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied and depends on the desk you work on, I worked on some that were extremely busy and others that were very very slow.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Everyone is given the same responsibilities, until you begin managing people directly. We all source candidates and then progress to contacting clients.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working in recruitment has benefited my degree very very little, besides perhaps giving me more confidence in talking to pretty much anyone.

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It depends on the day and how the team is performing as a whole. The office can feel very tense and stressed or it can be a buzz of energy and fun. The people in this job make it bearable.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Once you've started there is a structured 12 week training programme on desk and away from our desks. Once this has finished it's less structured after that.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They have a good training program but is very general to the entire business and certain things don't really apply to certain departments.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I won't be coming back as recruitment is not for me.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Good social scene but only really involved drinking.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, as is socialising. Our salary did not represent/reflect the fact we were located in London so it was a struggle, especially if renting a flat here also.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London, there's always things going on which is great!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • NA
