    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • As a placement student you are given the same responsibilities as a graduate and this gives you the freedom to run your desk fairly independently near the end of your placement. I loved my team and they are all very supportive and don't treat you like an intern at all.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued. I was not seen as a burden or someone who chips in where needed, I was a full member of the team and had as much responsibility as most of my colleagues. We would do team activities and they would always be there for support when needed.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The training when you start is very intense, however it helps you get up to speed alot quicker. My manager has always been there for support where needed and I am never afraid to ask the team for help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy! Apart from the week of Christmas you are always very busy, however the tasks are very varied.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the same amount of responsibility as a graduate employee and was given the freedom to manage my own tasks. I also often covered my colleagues work when they were away

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working in recruitment helps you develop many skills that are relevant for the future, both towards my degree and my future employability. This is due to the nature of the work being so varied.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Ultimately it is a sales environment and therefore there is a constant buzz in the office. There are sales days throughout the month which lives up the atmosphere even more, however sometimes it can be tough sitting at your desk all day when your work isn't going to plan.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There are a very large number of placement students and so the year was set out very well. There was a clear training plan from day 1 and once a month all the placement students meet with a director to discuss how we've done.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a very extensive training plan to get you up to speed, however it is very generic and wasn't tailored to each individual.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a role for after I finish university and I know a few other placement students have too. If you put in the work Hays are very open to you returning after the year.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive, however I knew that from the outset. If you hit your targets there are opportunities to go out with the team, expenses paid which is good fun. This is a very sociable environment and people often go out at least once a week.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is good, however it is expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were not many opportunities, however towards the end of my placement I have become a member of a sports team. We had team nights out occasionally.
