    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Mace is a great company to work for. Especially joining as a Grad or Industrial Placement student. As an IP, the induction day is a great opportunity to meet the rest of the placements prior to joining your individual teams and projects. There are regular events throughout the year where you all come back together and get the opportunity to catch up...

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Yes, once you get to know your client and begin to understand the role you fulfill. Adding a fresh perspective to the day-to-day running of the project can add real value to both your team and the client.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Despite not working directly with my line manager. There were regular catch ups and I always felt as if I could pick up the phone if I had any issues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Workload was very dependent on what was going on with the project. Some days would be long and hard if there were issues but these were balanced out by shorter easier days. But overall there was a definitely a balance over the year.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I started off delivering small work packages, however by the end of the year I was delivering my own full scale projects for my Client.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Whilst at Mace, I gained a CSCS test and completed an SMSTS which provides you will all of the knowledge to act as a Site Manager. Further to this Mace has an intensive training programme that you complete upon starting at the company, covering topics such as H&S, Sustainability and Mace Way

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It varied. In my department, the atmosphere varied from project team to project team. Some days the atmosphere would be light hearted and chatty, others it would be serious. However it did very much depend on who you were sat with.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very highly structured. The company as a whole is very used to having young employees come in on various training schemes, so there was also the right support in place for me. The only slow part was at the start of the year when I was being allocated to a client, however this only took a few days to confirm.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Over the year, I had the opportunity to attend many training courses varying in value. Mace also will support you financially and pastorally when pursuing professional qualifications. We were also allowed time to go and visit our peers projects as part of our learning and development.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very... it would be great to return to the Mace as part of the Graduate development programme in order to further build on the skills that I have gained on my placement.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Excellent. Ask my bank account.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not the cheapest with the Head Office being in the City.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Busy all nights of the week. However, the area is well connected on the tube. Northern, Central, Circle, Hammersmith, District and Met line all pass stations within a 5 minute walk of the office. But there is no need to travel to far.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Receive 1 Volunteering Day a year, but other than that the opportunities were socially arranged rather than organized as part of the business.
