    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the team atmosphere at Enterprise. There really is the best can do attitude where everyone comes together to achieve the goal of the branch, There was clarity to the role which made it much easier to enjoy the work as you knew what to expect at each point. There was also many opportunities to socialise outside of work, for example we had a summer ball or could earn dinners out with our team for hitting our goals.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really did feel valued by my whole team and my manager. When I completed a task in the branch , I would always be thanked for doing it without being asked. I always wanted to do more in the branch because I felt the work I was doing was appreciated. It makes such a difference to do a role for placement that you have a direct impact on the business's success. Obviously there are some parts to every job that seem a bit simple but you get as far as you are willing to push yourself. Enterprise is full of opportunities if you are willing to maximise them - much like anything in life.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was amazing! She was always approachable and always made time for you whenever, you only needed to ask. In and out of work, she was always supportive of my goals. My placement year was quite manic for my personal life with a few family emergencies and despite the nature of our business my manager was always there to support and guide me. We had monthly meetings and quarterly lunches to discuss my progress and set new targets to develop my service and sales skills.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Being in a branch is great for developing your work ethic. If you like to be challenged and put to the test, you are ready to try Day Running where you run the branch yourself taking control of both your fleet and your colleagues to achieve the day's tasks which can sometimes be harder than it initially appears. It teaches you to be adaptable and how to keep on your toes regardless of the pressure you may be facing.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Working in the branch in group rental you have a direct impact on the business. The business relies on you and the choices you make which directly affect their success. From your sales, to the level of risk you take in your choices can all have a huge impact on the success of the branch, especially in terms of competing to be as good if not better than the other branches in your area. It was a big difference compared to my friends placements who said they did not feel like they had much of an impact in their jobs.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having completed two years of my degree reading from a slide or a textbook, it made a HUGE difference to practice it in real life. I would highly recommend every student to do a year in industry! Not only have I developed many skills that can help to get me employed like time management, stronger work ethic and working to sales targets but I have also created an opportunity and ties that I can follow up at graduation!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team created a fantastic environment to work in, We all laughed with each other and it felt more like my adopted family than just my colleagues. We worked hard but we played hard too. We would help each other with customers, making jokes and providing excellent service. It always felt great to put a smile on our faces as well as on our customers faces. We often met up outside of work for dinners or activities as well!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My internship was very organised with structure training sessions on the various areas of the business but 70% of the work was on the job learning which I preferred as I learnt better by completing the processes with the customer, insurance company, body shop or so on myself. It really solidifies the knowledge and makes you far more confident in your execution.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Aside from structure training sessions every two or so months, we were given lots of time with managers for reviews and reflections on our own success, Setting up new goals and thinking about how we achieved a previous goal. You would get as much time as you asked for! I have grown in so many ways, I am harder working, more resilient to things in my life and in work as well. I feel that this job has given me life skills not just work skills.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Enterprise is a rare company that will always promote from within. They make the goals very clear and the means to reach them very transparent. It is very reassuring to work in a company with these processes.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scheme was amazing. We would go to bars every other week after work, We could win events by completing our daily goals meaning we might be taken for drinks or a nice dinner. For my leaving do, we went to Swingers golf club in London and had a fun night together as a team. We also had a Spring Ball that the whole of our area attended at the O2 which was a great inclusive evening of drinks and dancing!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived 45 minutes from my work in East London, it was quite costly as I commuted 45 minutes either way in the car but other people lived much closer to their branches - maybe 10-15 minutes in the car.
