    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the week. I learnt a lot about the industry, Mace and the roles it has to offer as well as the skills needed to succeed. The site visits were very interesting as well as varied. I particularly enjoyed seeing the new Camden Lock Village in construction. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and willing to answer questions. During the week we also took part in interactive activities which helped to keep us actively interested.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my insight week. Mace did this by getting graduates and placement students as well as senior members of the business to talk to us. All our questions were answered and they were enthusiastic to talk about what they did. They stressed the amount of training that Graduates get. They also listened to our points of view during our mini presentations. And our feedback was highly valued.

  • Mace did this by getting graduates and placement students as well as senior members of the business to talk to us. All our questions were answered and they were enthusiastic to talk about what they did. They stressed the amount of training that Graduates get. They also listened to our points of view during our mini presentations. And our feedback was highly valued. Furthermore we had an application skills afternoon with feedback which gave me advice for applying to anything in the future.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The application advice afternoon was very helpful and I now know ways to improve my application for next time, both when applying to Mace and other companies. The talk by the sustainability team really helped put my studies in perspective. Beyond my studies I now know the skills that I need to develop and have evidence of to succeed.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight week was very well structured and kept to time as much as possible. Mace did this by getting graduates and placement students as well as senior members of the business to talk to us. All our questions were answered and they were enthusiastic to talk about what they did. They stressed the amount of training that Graduates get. We were given a schedule of the week in advance as well as details about who we were shadowing.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was very positive. Mace seemed excited to have us there and were very happy to take a lot of time out of peoples working day to talk to us and answer our questions. They really encouraged me to apply for a summer placement and made me feel highly valued. I look forward to applying in the future.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They set aside one afternoon for an application skills workshop. We gained feedback from mini interviews and presentations that we had participated in. They gave us lots of advice in order to apply in the future. The graduates spoke strongly about how much training they get as well as help to gain their chartership.

  • Extremely valuable. It gave me an insight into the daily tasks that graduates have at Mace as well as the skills they use most and the skills I need to develop. I learnt about different types of charterships and the different paths to management you can take. The site tours gave me an interactive experience and I really felt as though it was a turning point in deciding on what I wanted to do.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were reimbursed for all expenses during the day and lunch was included.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were huge opportunities for networking and meeting other employees, particularly graduates and students on placements. Everyone was happy to be connected on linked in and to answer questions. I now have points of contact within Mace to ask questions that arise. And also feel as though they are keen to help and that I am not a hindrance.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We learnt a lot about the Mace foundation and the support work that they do for each of their charities. As well as how they want their employees to have a well rounded life, including sports and social life to ensure the best quality of life possible. Every employee is allowed a day off a year to undertake charity work and they can help with organising events to support both their employees and their charities.
