    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed it - as an intern at RR you are given a lot of responsibility & your own tasks. It's great to have pieces of work that are your own & it really helps get a feel for the compnay & the work that goes on here.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone in Rolls Royce is so friendly & you can feel comfortable approaching anyone, no matter their job title. Everyone seems to look at interns as equals & genuinely wants the best for you during your time in the company so they are all willing to help!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Really good support system - you are given a supervisor and a graduate buddy to guide you through the internship as well as a really friendly team who are always around for support. There are some great exercises you can request through learning portals to help if you are confused - noone really minds helping you out!

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Pretty busy on daily basis - can have a pretty empty day sometimes but just have to learn to ask for extra work if this is the case! Never really 'too' busy unless you really leave things to the last minute. In general its a pretty good balance & you can always request less/more work if things aren't a good balance.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Quite a lot of responsibility! At first, people do guide you a bit but if you want to do things by yourself you can just say & noone will mind. Or if you are left alone & need guidance it's easy to find someone to give you help. We were also given our own projects which was good because you get to become familiar with your own piece of work for 10 weeks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Really feel like I developed tons of skills at RR & knowledge that will help in my degree. You become really familiar with the work by the end of the 10 weeks & genuinely feel as if you learned more than you would've imagined!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Not awful - can be quite dull at times but we have a good bunch in our office so there's always food & friendly people around. There is a 'costa' in the building but prices are quite expensive & there's not much variety. There's some canteens around but nothing too special. Site is quite close to supermarkets & fast food restaurants, It can also get quite hot in the office & also can be dull with no open windows or fresh air - can sometimes feel like you're trapped in a dull office.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well organized by graduate coordinators. In your first few weeks you get intro meetings to other business areas to familiarize yourself with the company. As there are quite a few interns in Commercial, we all do stuff together pretty much every week & we have good graduate buddys to help us with any issues or talk to!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did invest quite well in the interns. There's some interns lucky enough to go travelling with the company for a few days/weeks but not everyone gets this lucky so don't bank on it... depending on which area you are placed you're opportunity to travel varies a lot. Definitely got a lot of training in RR and there is potential for more training if you ask.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really good flexible grad scheme - always potential to move to a very different role if you're bored of your current role.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Really good social scene - always events on for interns & really easy to get to know all the other interns in Commercial & the grads.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Really good - student city so not too expensive!

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Derby is good! Quite a lot of clubs/bars & restaurants & plenty of other options if that's not for you!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was the occasional team/office event but not too much. There's an Apprentice & Graduation association that organizes a lot of events for apprentices, interns & grads. Fee of £5 to join but get massive discounts on the events they hold.

    4/5
