The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Willis Towers Watson, and would certainly recommend the programme to my peers at University. I found numerous aspects of the placement enjoyable, and felt that the overall organisation of the scheme and particularly the inclusion of social and group events, greatly enhanced my experience over the past 8 weeks. I feel extremely fortunate to have been placed within the project management team at WTW. The general ethos and team environment have made coming into work a real pleasure. I will certainly miss working as part of the PM team.
My colleagues made me feel extremely welcome and valued throughout the 8 weeks. In fact, they treated me as if I was a colleague rather than simply a student on a temporary placement, which made the entire experience far more enjoyable. The project management team were truly wonderful, and I'd thoroughly recommend them to anybody seeking a summer internship
My line manager and team buddy were both extremely supportive throughout the 8 weeks. If I ever became stuck with any work, or if I wasn't sure about anything around the office, they were always willing and ready to help. They made me feel extremely welcome, and would guide me whenever I needed advice.
My work load would vary greatly according to the proximity of any client meetings that I had become involved in. Consequently, in the run up to these meetings, I would tend to be busy in order to make sure that all of the necessary materials had been put together. On the other hand, there were some slower days, but I was never bored, and always had enough work - and I felt that I could ask for more if I needed any.
I felt that I was given an adequate level of responsibility throughout my placement, and was allowed to lead conference calls as well as organise essential materials required for client meetings. Of course, there was a limit to the amount of responsibility I could take on, but I felt that I was certainly allowed to take a leadership role, and share my ideas at every possible opportunity
Being part of the project management team meant that I had to develop numerous skills, including my time management, working under pressure and interacting with colleagues. I will certainly be able to continue to use these skills as I embark upon my career - and therefore see this experience as invaluable in terms of career progression
The Company
The office atmosphere was very warm and friendly, with those sitting around me always willing to chat or discuss any pieces of work that I was working on. At the same time, everybody recognises the importance of needing to concentrate and focus throughout the day and as such, the atmosphere was certainly conducive to productivity.
The internship was extremely well organised, with the social events allowing the entirety of the group to bond and get to know each other. The lunch and learn meetings that we had were also extremely useful, and gave an excellent insight into areas of the company that we were unable to access during our internship
The company invested significant time in us, allowing us to develop numerous new skills. Of particular value were the presentation skills sessions. They were run extremely professionally, and as well as helping us with the construction of our presentations, they also helped me to develop a greater level of self confidence as far as presenting was concerned
Subsidised Canteen
The potential prospects are extremely appealing, and the composition of the grad scheme is very attractive, offering a broad range of opportunities. I would also like to travel with my job, and I believe that this option will be open to me with WTW
The Culture
As an intern group, we socialised frequently - whether this was at lunchtime or after work. This made the experience far more exciting, and I feel that I've made a number of friends within the group
I lived at home throughout my internship - but inevitably, socialising in London is expensive!
I didn't really get an opportunity to explore the nightlife - but London is renowned for it's social scene.
Several opportunities were available - and I played both football and rugby with some colleagues after work
