The Role
I really enjoyed the team that I was in, however, it was more of a management/strategy role rather than a broking role, and because the group project we were assigned did not go into a technical aspect of the insurance industry, I feel that I haven't got as much insight into WTW's core functions as the other interns, and as such, I am still unsure about whether I would like to continue in the insurance industry. I really appreciate the presentation training WTW gave us, with Amplify.
One of the most positive things about this placement was that every person I spoke to was very welcoming, and very friendly. The fact that the CEO Dominic Casserly actually took the time to welcome all the interns on a conference call on our second day, demonstrates how valued I felt as an intern for the company.
All of the colleagues within my team were very supportive, answered all my questions, and praised me whenever I had made a good input to the team. I feel that they gave me constructive feedback where necessary, and I felt like I was actually making a tangible input to the team.
At some points towards the end I felt like I was extremely busy, as I had to juggle our group project: presentation and report, and complete 3 different work streams, and make sure that I was meeting my objectives, however I believe it gives an accurate representation about life in the professional workplace.
I was in charge of managing the action log, and co-ordinating the weekly meetings to check up on the teams progress and contributed to 3 major projects, one of which I was completing myself, which gave me an opportunity to demonstrate some of my problem solving skills.
While I did data analysis, it was at a much more simple level than what I do at university and because I didn't get much experience of the broking side, or assist in any complex risk modelling I feel that I haven't learned extra technical skills that I can incorporate into my degree. However I think things like time management and presentation skills, that I have improved jupon during my placement will be very useful for me.
The Company
Everyone was vey pleasant within the office. It is generally not a young office though. Everyone is quite busy so mainly getting on with work but there are occasional bursts of chatter which make it a nice place to be.
The internship seemed very well organised, all of our senior speakers events were put in our calendars before we even got there, we were given a detailed handbook about what our official schedules and major deadlines would be, and it seemed that a lot of thought had been given to the senior speakers events and social events.
1. Presentation training with Amplify 2. Senior speaker's events 3. Setting us up with a senior mentor, team buddy and graduate buddy 4.Gave us free copies of Christopher Stoake's "Know the city" 5. Personal impact training with RADA 6. Project management training

As of now, I am not 100% sure that I want to stay within the insurance industry but or hose who do, I would say this is a fantastic place to work
The Culture
All of the interns got on really well, HR organised a good amount of social events which encouraged us all to get to know each other, and I think we will all keep in touch.
It was quite expensive, but it's London
It was O.K but too expensive for what it is. To begin with though, the buzz of Leadenhall market was really cool
We did a community volunteering vent where we did Gardening with Thrive, who manage gardens for disabled people. Before, the prospect of gardening didn't seem vey appealing but it ended up being very rewarding, and fairly therapeutic. Some of the interns also took part in various Willis sports teams outside of work too.
