    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was really good and well organised. The whole ethos and reason for the programme was advertised and there was teaching aspects too. It was also good that they thought about accommodation and putting people in places in groups so that there is a sense of community.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We knew that they needed people to apply for the grad programme because they need good teachers and so on, so they did make up feel valued.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was information packs and speakers and there was a lot of info from the representatives there and we also knew that we could always ask questions.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Being able to lead a lesson was great because it gave us presentation skills and "stage confidence" in that we felt more comfortable to talk to a room full of strangers and try to build rapport with them. Would have liked more teaching time.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Lots of info and very well timetabled and structured with regular updates on the community page and every detail was looked into. Would have liked to have more pupil contact but then again this is up to the school itself and not necessarily the fault of TeachFirst

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Loved the community spirit! It was great that the accommodation was together. Also I really loved my school group because they were just a really fun group to be with. The social events organised were good too, and it was extremely good that they kept mixing up the groups so that we had to meet more people- that bit works really well!

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were lots on identifying personal strengths and weaknesses and on developing ourselves such as resilience and so on. There were sessions specifically focused on it. Would have liked more teacher specific training to know what official teacher training would be like.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • There was soooo much information on the grad programme and the opportunities after, sometimes to the extent it was repetitive. However there was a wide range of speakers and people who came in to talk about their time.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • There was lots of information on the reasons behind TeachFirst and why it came about. There was a debate about educational inequality at the end too to get us all engaged.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Would have liked more actual teaching experience because I personally had to share one lesson between three people but I know others had a lesson all to themselves. There was a wide range of info about what can be done after TeachFirst in terms of being an entrepeneur and so on.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Accommodation was provided. Pay of £500 was given. Food and travel was own expense.

  • Lots of networking sessions with speakers who did the grad programme and then went on to do other things.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We had social areas in our accommodation and there were two socials organised at a bar nearby.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes there was a lot of focus on being an entrepeneur and setting up social enterprises and going off to do business and so on.

    5/5
