    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement and found the Reading office to have a great atmosphere and be really welcoming. I worked with both the tax and audit teams and thoroughly enjoyed both and was really made to feel part of the team!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always feel I can ask my colleagues questions and for help and they are always very willing. My supervisors and managers were great at passing on good feedback on my work both internally and from clients.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had great support from my supervisors and managers with them regularly checking in with me to make sure I'm getting on okay and understanding everything. No question was too small to ask!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During quiet times in both departments I found myself sometimes asking for work and having a low workload, compared to busy times when it could become overwhelming and extended hours would be required to get everything done! I did enjoy the challenge of this though and think it gave me a good insight into how the industry works.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility from day one and this grew accordingly as my experience and knowledge did, They really trusted me and it was nice to be treated on the same level as graduates and to do more than just make drinks!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I got lots of training experience, getting to attend the same training courses and events as other graduates and employees. The internal training will be a great help next year as it has vastly improved my knowledge and practical understanding of the things I learned from uni but may have not fully grasped. I feel much more prepared going into my final year and for my professional exams in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The Reading office has a great atmosphere which is enhanced by a really active social committee that organised plenty of events. I tried to get involved with as much as possible from sports day to Duke of Edinburgh. This made my place in my opinion as I feel I've made friends for life and it really improved my experience here and made the job even more enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organised with the HR department being helpful all the way. I moved departments from audit to tax halfway through my placement which was well organised and the transition was very smooth.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot in me, sending me on all the training courses they would do for a normal graduate. It really showed that the company wanted me to succeed and were happy to put in the work with me to get the most from me.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company is a great employer and I would love to return as a graduate, which has been discussed and the prospects of me being able to do so look good. I can do nothing but sing the firms praises!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is close to London and with such is more expensive than my home town but a similar level to my university city (Winchester). However work were really great at putting on events with subsidised drinks and food so socialising was easy! The competitive salary provided also made it possible to live and enjoy my placement year to the full.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading is a bigger place and more lively than I'm used to so I really enjoyed the social side! I regularly go out with work people on nights out which is great for getting to know everyone better and has really helped with my work.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of opportunities- I am taking part in the Reading team Duke of Edinburgh award as well as plenty of other events like comedy and curry nights!

    4/5
