    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my year at Vauxhall. The team that i worked with were all really friendly and i got on well with everyone. This made the year more enjoyable than it otherwise could of been. The variety of work and projects i have been involved in made the year really interesting.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was made to feel very welcome by the colleagues in my team. Everyone was always friendly and happy to help me with any questions that i had. This made it easy for me to settle into the role quickly. i also got on well with the other undergrads at Vauxhall and never had any problems with a colleague.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I worked very closely with my manager throughout the year. I feel we got on really well and i have learnt a lot from him. He has helped me with work related problems and also offered advice and guidance for my future career.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of my role some days were busier/quieter than others. I could always find something to work on though. I have had to stay late on the odd occasion during particularly busy times, or when i had urgent work to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was surprised at how much responsibility I had in my role. As I progressed through the year and developed into my role i noticed that the work i was involved with had a increasing responsibility and was seen higher up in the company.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills that i developed on placement will really benefit me in my future career. I have improved my transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, managing tasks and commercial awareness. I have had to learn new computer systems quickly and how to use Excel effectively. This will definitely be a useful skill in future job roles. At Vauxhall all undergrads receive presentation training & intermediate and advanced excel training. I have become more confident as a presenter through my time at Vauxhall.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very good in the office.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All undergrads at Vauxhall are given presentation, intermediate Excel and Advanced Excel training. I also attended training sessions on new computer systems such as Microsoft Power BI.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is no Grad scheme at Vauxhall. The structure of the company makes future employment prospects bleak.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • At Vauxhall there is a large community of placement students. This makes the social scene is very good.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at my family home whilst on placement. however from speaking to the other undergrads they said that the cost of living wasn't bad,

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton nightlife isn't great. However St. Albans, Watford and London are not far away and offer good nights out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of opportunities to participate in outside of work activities. Rounders and Football tournaments are popular. All undergrads get involved with the STEMNET ambassador scheme and have to go to a local school and help run a days activities.
