    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my time at Vauxhall, it was a great experience and I was always made to feel like a real member of the team. It was a real job with real responsibilities and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was always made to feel welcome by the rest of my team and department. They always made it known that i was a valuable team member and that the work I did was important.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always there to offer a helping hand if it was needed. He would always encourage us to try and find the answers ourselves at first, but would be able to help us if we couldn't solve the problem ourselves.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The days varied. At times I would have a lot of work and at times I wouldn't have enough to occupy me. However, the majority of the time there was a good balance of things to be getting on with.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The project that i was working on throughout my placement was my responsibility. If I needed help, I was able to ask, however it was up to me how the overall project went.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I received a lot of training and skills that will transferable to any job that I work in in the future. Everything I learnt has been extremely valuable.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I worked in an office on the side of the Warehouse. This meant that the office was smaller and made up of only 30 people. Everyone knew each other and what the skills were. Therefore you were able to ask anyone for help at any time. The only downside to working at the warehouse was that the office did not get involved in as many activities over at head quarters.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was well organised. We were given open days and help with finding houses for when we relocated. We had a 2 week induction with old undergraduates teaching us what we needed to know before they left and talks from mangers to gain a better understanding of the whole business.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot in us. We were given a lot of different training in house by other employees, and I was also able to have outside training for Visual Basic.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definatley come back to Vauxhall as a graduate, even if it was just for a few years. However, I would like to explore job roles in different areas to gain more of an understanding of the company as a whole.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With around 80 undergraduates working for Vauxhall, there was a great opportunity for a social life. Many of the undergraduates live with each other and there was always something to do of a weekend.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I chose to live in a more expensive house in the area and ended up paying £420 a month inclusive of bills. Other costs, such as going out, food etc came to around £200 a month.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton itself was not great for nightlife, although you can go out in Luton. However being close to London and St Albans allowed us to go out to different areas for nights out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was a member of the gym and went most nights with housemates. Vauxhall organised other activities that you could take part in as well.

    4/5
