    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed placement when I was busy and had lots of work to do. However, days where work was slow were less enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt like a part of the team there to do actual work and not just to make tea and run errands as a stereotypical intern.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • To a great extent - however they weren't too over bearing and let me learn from my mistakes and get on with it.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Usually I had a steady work flow. Due to the nature of my job how busy I was greatly depended on other's problems with technology.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Enough responsibility so I felt that I had valuable input and had participated in the success of certain projects.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • To a great extent - especially with group work in university and in future job roles. Liaising between the business and the IT sector was a great experience.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was based between two sites and while both were professional - one was slightly more laid back. Everyone was very approachable and I enjoyed my colleagues company.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Quite well organised - while I had to take most of my work as it came on a daily basis the only thing I would suggest is perhaps more project work.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • To a fair extent - between meetings with my supervisor and taking CLMS courses, this definitely facilitated my development.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely consider returning to Caterpillar post graduation - the people are great and I really enjoyed this year.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not particularly - there were only a few placements at my site and where I was based was quite quiet. However, we did have some nights out.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was very reasonable - more expensive than home but compared to somewhere like London it was great.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Quite poor compared to university.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Sometimes - for example the charity football match or nights out.

    2/5
