    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Loved it! Learnt so much and the culture of the company is so great. they really want you to learn and help achieve that in anyway they can.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 100%. I was always praised when necessary and also helped along the way. I was always involved in meetings and definitely never felt like a temporary member of staff.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My learning at Gazprom has been supported through encouragement of job shadowing various other departments as well and 'lunch and learn' sessions they hold.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It would depend throughout the month, but I would always be able to finish my work and have extra time for other responsibilities I had picked up. Also I had built up good relationships across teams which meant I was personally given work instead of the team. This did increase my workload a bit but due to the relationships I have made I was able to ask others for favours as well. It worked really well actually.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On a daily basis I was responsible for allocating thousands of pounds worth of customer payments. I was always trusted with extra responsibilities but mentored if I was stuck.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt so many skills which I can see helping me in my education as well as back in the working world. From hard skills such as excel and SAP, I have also built up on people skills and my confidence.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A really positive vibe and opportunities to get to know other teams. Dress down Friday meant the office always felt a little more relaxed. Simply seeing people in the kitchen in the morning getting breakfast helped to build relationships as people are so friendly and willing to get to know you.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well. I started off with a two week cross over with the previous intern which means I had an opportunity to learn from someone who had plenty of time to teach and also knew exactly how I was feeling. I went out for lunch with the other interns on my first day and a tour which meant I felt like I wasn't so much of a lost sheep.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was always encouraged to job shadow as many teams as I wanted and was put on to multiple training events even within my first month at Gazprom. I was also aided with my university skills when I wanted to learn more about writing emails and also excel. There was always opportunities to learn and they didn't care that I was only technically a temporary employee.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As the team I currently work for is quite small and currently utilises an intern, graduate jobs in Accounts Receivable are rare. saying this, there are other opportunities in the business that the team do suggest I apply for. One previous intern now works as an accountant and is being helped to pass his formal accountant exams.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Our social events such as Christmas and Summer parties are great! So social and the company spend a fair bit to make sure the night is enjoyable. We have also been on Finance team days, one where we went on an organised treasure hunt around Chester and then went to Chester Races with a lovely meal out.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived with my boyfriend and lived slightly out of town. It was actually cheaper than living in student accommodation and was a rather big flat in Eccles. The Tram into work took about 25 minutes and cost £15. The cost or the time didn't bother me at all and a lot of people in the office use them so I often bump into people on my commute. In terms of socialising, well it's the city centre so it's not the cheapest, but as there are plenty of student places around I really didn't find it too expensive...nothing like being in London!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The complex I work in is relatively new and they are building bars and new restaurants next door. These re opening really soon so I expect next year's interns will be able to go for drinks next door after work. saying this, there are so many restaurants and bars in Deansgate which is just a couple of minutes walk away so nothing is far.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Quite a few. There was bowling in the finance team and away days. We often went out for lunch within our team, or sometimes just me and my supervisor. We are a really sociable bunch. We don't really meet up at weekends but the other interns are more likely to go out with you as they are in the same position.
