    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight exceeded all expectations. I was nervous prior to the Vac Scheme about how much I would be expected to know, however the supervisors were really happy to answer questions and trainees were always around to offer help. Grad recruitment were also really supportive in ensuring you were enjoying the Scheme and knew where to go and when.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was praised on my work by my supervisors and any improvements required were communicated in a very friendly manner. Supervisors seemed to really appreciate any help I could offer them which meant I immediately felt part of the team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Grad recruitment in particular were great at ensuring you were supported during the two weeks. They would remind you of any events that were coming up, and whenever we met would have an informal chat about how you were finding the Scheme. Supervisor's were always willing to answer questions and to give you work when you asked for it.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Drafting in particular was a skill I had not really developed prior to the scheme and I think this will really help with the LPC. The research training was also invaluable as I was introduced to new ways of using Westlaw that will help with assessments.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The structure was seamless. It was an impressive two weeks packed full of training courses, presentations, socials and of course actually working within our departments.

    3/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was refreshing to be in a firm that obviously worked extremely hard and was full of extremely clever individuals. There was a collaborative culture which encouraged hard work but also appreciated the importance of a work-life balance. Confident, but not arrogant.

    3/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt extremely lucky to have secured a Scheme with a firm that was clearly dedicated to investing in me and my potential as a lawyer. The week was very much focussed on us as individuals and developing our skills and how the firm is the right fit for us, rather than us being the right fit for the firm.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The Scheme gave me a valuable insight into the actual work of lawyers and trainees in particular. This was through been giving work akin to that of lawyers and trainees at the firm.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I left with a full understanding of the collaborative culture of the firm, yet the dedication to working hard and achieving results.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It simply reaffirmed my decision to pursue a career as a lawyer.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid £800 for the two weeks which more or less covered by accommodation expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I was constantly approached by trainees and other professionals in the firm to join them for lunch or a coffee which was a great way to network.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social events were excellent.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • It was not something I particularly had in mind to find out about, so was given limited information about this. Had I asked however, I am sure I would have found out more information.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely! There is very little to criticise about the whole Scheme.
