    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my industrial Management Consulting placement at Accenture. I was given the opportunity to interact with industry professionals in a nice friendly environment. Accenture is a really cool company that provides great opportunity for students looking to enter the management consulting field. I believe that I have been able to open many doors for my future career.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At my current project my supervisor/ team lead provided me with a great deal of support. My lead took time to have 1 to 1 sessions with me to teach me about the software that we were implementing to the client. This allowed me to approach the work more confidently and I believe this was key to the client offering me an extension on my placement.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied a great deal. I believe at times the senior management would stall on making certain key decisions that would affect my workload and therefore these delays made certain days far busier than the regular. Overall I believe that there was sufficient work to be completed however at times the work can become very repetitive. This will depend upon your role, the project you are on, the client you are working for and the service you are implementing.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement I was at times reporting and interacting directly with senior management. This makes me feel that I was trusted with carrying out these responsibilities. Being given a range of tasks allowed me to develop my skills and my understanding of the field. This will benefit me in the future as I pursue a role within the consulting sector.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that I have developed at Accenture, I believe can be used throughout my life and will aid me in the future. I have bettered my understanding of the corporate world. Through being given the responsibility of creating and delivering presentations I have become more confident to presenting and this can benefit my degree studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I feel that the atmosphere at the office I worked at was fairly dull in comparison to the other experiences I have had of working. This was just my experience with my client however that's what is great about the consulting sector: you have a range of clients and you keep getting to move about and try something new.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was extremely well organised. The overall set up allowed us to gain a range of experiences which I believe is key to a good internship. This allows us to gain a variety of experiences which will allow us to understand the industry better and get a taste of different roles before we enter the world of work following our degree. Our initiation week was well thought through and very enjoyable. The team did a great of job of implementing answers from a previous questionnaire into this week. (e.g. our favourite songs were played in the background). We also got to meet a finalist from the TV show The Apprentice. She offered up great advice to progressing further within the industry.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the start of the placement there was a very good introductory training week which allowed us to gain an understanding of what happens at the firm and what part we will play in the company. We were given extensive training in Excel which I believe will benefit me in the long-run, on my next project and in the future.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Accenture is a great company that has strong future employment prospects. If you work well throughout your placement, offers are made. I have a few months left of my placement and so will only find out if I have been offered a position within the company after my placement ends. If given an offer, I will return to the company after finishing my final year of university.
