    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was really well organised from the start, with help and support provided throughout. All my colleagues were incredibly friendly. The internship is specifically designed to challenge you, and as you progress you ear additional responsibility. Consequently, I felt really valued as an employee of the company rather than just as an intern.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Highly valued by colleagues, who provided help and assistance throughout. They were happy to lend a hand when I didn't understand something, but equally were keen to step back to allow me to develop independent working and to take ownership of work. I would often go out for lunch or drinks after work with colleagues who were happy to chat to me in their own time, in order to help develop my own personal network.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Constantly reviewed my progress with both my senior manager and business buddy throughout. But also everyone on my team took an interest in how I was progressing, were eager to lend a hand and encourage my personal skills development. I have still kept in touch with them since finishing, and they continue to provide advice and guidance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept incredibly busy throughout the day and throughout the entire internship. U had my own workload and was responsible for a certain part of the project so it was expected of me that I would pull my weight as a member of the team. Likewise, there were also opportunities to be proactive, produce a bit of work that hadn't been asked of you, but something you felt might have been useful.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A huge amount of responsibility from the word go. Essentially I wasn't seen as an intern, but a member of the team that was seen as vital and really important. Sometimes I often felt that I had too much work on my plate, but this came down to developing effective time management skills on my part.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed are going to be vital for my future career success. The broad range of computer skills I utilised and learnt about on a daily basis will be an asset to me regardless of career trajectory I plan to pursue. The training at the beginning of the placement is really helpful, particularly networking skills which will be hugely transferable and useful for a future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was serious atmosphere in the office, this was mainly due to the fact that we were working on the client site and within the client office. Having said that, it was welcoming and people were very keen to chat to me and get to know me as I was new and coming into the office for the first time. The environment was highly professional, but that just emphasised the trust and responsibility that you had as an intern to perform your duties within a serious workplace

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Initially some people did not have projects. I did but had to go through additional security checks. I did feel that this could have been arranged in advance rather than wasting a bit of time at the beginning of the internship. Similarly, the on boarding process was a bit disorganised, I had to submit my ID documents multiple times over several months. Having said that, once I was up and running everything ran very smoothly and efficiently. All the internal computer systems such as time and expenses an holiday etc, took a bit of getting used to, however they worked effectively.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A huge amount was invested in us. In our orientation week all the interns had a rigorous Excel training session which was very thorough and extensive. I felt that I learnt an enormous amount, and those skills will stay with me for a long time. The first week is hectic, there is a huge amount packed in, but that is just because there is so much for you to learn. It's really helpful and hands on with lots of opportunities for you to develop and learn new skills throughout the internship, not just during the orientation week.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Hugely appealing. There is a great future for people within this firm, there is a wealth of opportunities available for interns coming back as full-time graduates. Likewise, career progression is very good, should you want it. The caveat is that it is a big firm, you can't afford to sit on the sidelines, instead you need to be proactive from the start. But that is why you would take a career in consulting anyway. If you are ambitious to work with a huge, prestigious list of clients, they this company is right for you.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We didn't have many socials, but the ones we did have worked really well. The HR team were really generous and booked out some fantastic venues for all the interns to socialise and to get to know one another at both the beginning of the internship and at the end. It would have been good to have had more, but considering the fact everyone was working on different client sites, this might not have been possible. Working on the client site, you get to know a lot of people so there are always opportunities for post-work drinks should you want them.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As it was in London, it was quite expensive. However the generous salary and bonus provided by Accenture should cover your accommodation and socialising. I didn't find it too much of a problem and you quickly learn where the cheaper places to go, should you want them, are located. Accommodation is expensive, but when in London, that is really to be expected. However it really is a great place to be, well worth the extra cost associated with living in the capital.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Fantastic night life. There was great range of bars and clubs around where I was working. This allowed me plenty of places to meet up with friends or go out with colleagues after work. It never got boring and there was always somewhere new and exciting to go. Also, great travel links meant that you could always travel to different areas in the city to meet up with friends if you fancied a change of scene.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Loads of opportunities. The company has a huge range of societies that are really keen for you to get involved with outside of work. There are loads of different sports teams as well the play and train together throughout the week and at the weekends. Likewise, if there is a hobby you like that isn't already catered for, there are no barriers to setting up a new club, all you need is some enthusiasm and a few keen members.
