The Role
Enjoyed it quite a lot, although it did start to get repetitive towards the end of the year. I was at the same client, doing the same role, for the year though, so it's likely this would've been a different story had I moved on to a different role.
The people are the best part about the company, and I was lucky enough to have colleagues that always complemented me on a job well done, but also gave constructive criticism when it was needed.
My team lead was very supportive, and always gave me guidance when needed. My manager was very busy, but still felt I could approach him for support if required.
Busy nearly every day, but it's a similar story at all consultancies. The up side is that you're given a very generous holiday allowance, and are (strongly) encouraged to use it. Accenture are well aware of the dangers of burn out.
Was given a huge amount of responsibility, and it was a similar case for other people on the placement. However, I had to prove I could manage the responsibility first, and always felt I could approach my manager if I felt I was struggling.
Took part in a 3 week Java training course when I first joined, and took part in another 1 week Java training course half way through the year. The most important skills you develop are soft skills, however. Learning how to work as part of a team, and how to communicate complicated technical knowledge to a client is something you encounter day-to-day, but is also something you can't really be taught in a classroom.
The Company
Easy going, although I was working on a client site Monday - Friday, so it's important to respect their rules.
Very organised - Had an orientation the first two days of joining, which aim to bring you up to speed with how the company works. There were many social events organised for placement students throughout the year, and it was communicated quite clearly what your roles and responsibilities were.
Three week Java training course when first joining, and another 1 week Java training course later in the year. The company also provides you with 2 volunteering days, and I was able to use one of these during the year which provided another avenue for development.

Appealing, although I'd encourage for people with technical ability to apply for the consultancy, rather than the software engineering track. You can quite often end up in the same role, but you advance more quickly, and are compensated better, as a consultant.
The Culture
Multiple social events organised throughout the year, although it could sometimes be hard to go to them due to workload.
I was on a client site outside of London, so my Hotel, breakfast and evening meals were paid for by the company. Lunch was not free however, and was quite expensive at the un-subisidies client cage.
Good nightlife overall, which is typical of a university city!
Weekly sporting events, and monthly social events. Would encourage anyone who's joining to take advantage of these, as it gives you a chance to speak to your colleagues outside of work.
