    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year as it was very insightful and enabled me to learn many new skills and develop. The work was difficult but easy to manage once you got used to it and the people were easy to work and get on with. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. As a large majority of the other employees were also placement students it made it a more enjoyable experience as they were all easy to get on with and were good fun to socialise with after work. The other colleagues were also supportive and helpful.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given great support by my management and my supervisor which enabled me to develop upon my skills and learn new ones. If I ever had an issue with something there was always somebody i could go to for help with any issue and they would always help to quickly resolve it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was usually busy the majority of the day as there was always some task that I was required to do. If I was not busy I would be helping with the packing or logistics of the products so as to send out deliveries on time. Whilst the work was challenging to start with once you are accustomed to it it is much easier

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement year. I had to manage clients accounts and deal with suppliers directly with client specifications so that meant that I had to keep careful records of requirements and was responsible for numerous orders. I was also responsible for dispatching orders and receiving stock.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed combined with the training I received will assist me in my degree studies as it will help me focus and plan assignments and coursework more accurately and make my time keeping better than previous years. Beyond my studies I think they will also be useful as I have developed my communication and team working skills a lot.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was very good as it was an open plan office which meant that all employees could communicate with each other with ease which made resolving issues and talking effective. It also made it more fun as we could all talk with each other during work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement year was very well organised. We had over assessment days and interviews in May/June before beginning the role in September. When we started we received good training to prepare us for the work we would be doing and this made the transition much easier. Overall, the whole year was very well organised

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company took us on a number of training days so that we could better understand our customers our suppliers and our competitors. This helped aclimatise to the role so that we could understand more of what we were doing behind the desk in the office. We also had training days in the office to learn more about new things within our company system and develop health and safety skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There were not many future employment prospects as the company is a small operation. It would be nice to work there again because it was really enjoyable and I got on with the people there but the role I was doing is for the placement students so it is unlikely I will return to the company

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene amongst the other placement students. The company rented accomodation for the placement students as part of the salary. This meant that we were able to bond more and get to know each other quicker and socialise together which made it a much more enjoyable experience. The company also had a christmas party so it was good fun to see the other employees let their hair down

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was relatively ok. Maidenhead it located near Reading but the cost of food travel and drinks were quite reasonable. I didn't notice any large differences in prices around the area. The cost of socailising was also quite reasonable and we were able to travel to Reading, Windsor and London for night out.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area wasn't amazing but it was still good fun. We had the opportunities to travel to nearby towns that had better nightlife so it wasn't a deterant. Overall, the nightlife was enjoyable and we all had a good time. The cost of going out was reasonable so there wasn't any issues with that.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had a number of activities to participate in after work. The company had a 5 a side football team that we tried to do once every week (sometimes not enough of us could make it) but we also did other activities like bowling, gym and hanging out at the student houses. Whilst the permanent employees didn't necessarily join in with this it was still enjoyable.
