The Role
An internship experience with Accenture largely depends on the client project that you are assigned. In the beginning I was assigned a project that was not my first choice. However, I used my own initiative to pursue a project that I would be interested in and managed to reach out to various senior project leaders during my induction week so that I would be able to be placed in a project within Financial Services. My client was a full-service bulge-bracket firm in Canary Wharf. This resulted in me fully enjoying my internship as I was able to learn more within a sector that I was interested in.
My colleagues were my direct line manager, and a few senior managers. I felt that I was valued by them throughout my internship and was always given stimulating and challenging work that helped me develop my skills further.
I felt that the support provided by Accenture was good right from the start. We were given plenty of information regarding orientation and induction week and the internal network for communications was always helpful. Any technical issues was resolved quickly via Accenture's internal support team and supervisors on the proejct were always keen to help.
As I was working on a continuing project, there was always work to be done on a daily basis. Some days would be more busy than others if there was an impending deadline which the line manager required the task to be done by. All in all, there was enough work every day on the project that kept me busy.
I felt that I was given sufficient responsibility and accountability for my tasks- as this was an ongoing project of which many phases had commenced, at the beginning I was given time to get a good grasp of the scope of the project, its purpose and objectives. As my internship progressed however I was given more and more responsibility, including implementing new systems that I brainstormed with my managers to replace the existing project management office workflows- which I found incredibly rewarding.
The skills gained from this internship was valuable in honing my skills in teamwork, time management, accountability, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills. In addition, I felt that my oral and written communication skills were also improved as I needed to not only communicate in a clear, succinct manner to my colleagues and supervisors; I also needed to work well and communicate regularly with the client at the client site and project a good image for Accenture to the client.
The Company
The Accenture office on Fenchurch Street is nice and facilities are good. The environment might prove to be quite different at first as I did not get a definite desk. People move around and are scattered in hot-spots and desks and rooms needed to be booked online beforehand. However, this proved to be quite a unique experience as working in hot-spots allowed me to meet people from different projects within different sectors.
It was quite well-organised and we were always provided help and guidance whenever needed.
We were given Level 2 Microsoft Excel training on Week 1 and additional training was given throughout the week. There is a wide-ranging database of learning resources that were available to us online in the Accenture internal database.

I received a full-time offer on Week 5 of my summer internship.
The Culture
Yes- there were a variety of ways to communicate with analysts and summer interns on the programme. However, as everyone is placed in various projects in different locations starting week 2, communication might only usually be more on Lync. I was the only intern/analyst level on my project and I would've appreciated an event halfway through the internship so that the interns not only met at the beginning and end of the internship.
London is London...
London has so much to offer and there was a wide variety of venues and events that would've suited everyone.
There were plenty of opportunities for community service and sports clubs. Even though I was the only Accenture summer intern that participated in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge at Battersea Park, it was good fun!
