    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I believe I was very lucky because I of the flexibility to change projects. My second team was amazing and I got to do plenty of things enhancing my technical and soft skills. I was mainly doing Java server side development but I had to use AngularJS, MongoDB, IBM's DB2 and Drools quite often as well. I was part of an agile team so we had weekly demonstrations in front of the client which was very beneficial.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was the main Java developer on my team so I had to support around 10 people on the team. I had worked very closely with all of them and I felt valued. My manager trusted my decisions regarding technical matters and also involved me with the discussion with the third party companies involved with the project.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Apart from regularly scheduled meetings with my managers I also had a personal career counsellor who I could speak regarding my career path and what type of area I would like to get involved in. They provided me with support during my time in Accenture.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During my first project I would be relatively busy during the day, as the project had been going on for a while. However, on my second project I had plenty of responsibility and I would rarely have any free time. Occasionally I would have to work a bit late as well but that was an exception.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On my second project I was the main Java developer so I was responsible for supporting the team and making sure that any necessary functionality is delivered on time and meets the client's specifications.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe lots of the skills I have gained are transferable and will be applicable to other areas not only technology - presentation skills, communication skills, team working skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly, nurturing. There were lots of bake offs, charity and other events happening often, I was quite close to my team.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were problems for some students who had difficulties finding a project but luckily I was not one of them. I had good support from HR and my career counsellor.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
