    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was really good, For the majority of my internship I worked on a project directly related to my study subject, that is electronic engineering. I was investigating root causes of failure modes of a Circuit board supporting one of the companies products. The company was very forthcoming and supporting through the 3 months I worked there.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern I was valued same as every other worker on site, with respect and full transparency, there was always ability to get access to management, as part of my project I had to get access to most departments on site, there was never a time when someone would refuse to help me, as well as people appreciated, what I was trying to achieve though my project.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a line manager, who was very supportive even while having a high workload. On regular basis I was provided with constructive feedback, both practical as for an engineer as well as an insight working in a big company. Even while transitioning at the beginning of my intership, the management where understanding, when I had difficulties and supported me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of the time I worked independently on my project, parallel to the main project I was assigned other tasks, both with respect to the product I was making my main project on, as well as side projects related to future development of new products. Throughout the internship I was involved in many activities related to one of the companies main objectives, which is continuous improvement.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My main responsibility was the project I was brought in to work on (which was directly related to the biggest customer for that site), beyond that if I was ever free and wanted to be involved in outside projects, I had the opportunity to do that.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I had the opportunity to work freely in a well equipped electronics laboratory where I could set-up my own experiments, which has greatly improved my confidence and understanding, working in such an environment. A skill that I did not expect to gain was the level of business understanding and insight into company politics.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere in the office was relaxed and easy going, engineers can have surprisingly good sense of humour. At the same time it was professional, Every one was open, and did not mind a slightly sidetracked conversation outside the line of work we were doing. Having had worked in companies with dreadful relationships between departments, it was a relief that in this company they where generally friendly.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From the start of my internship I was given a good brief for my project, which helped me to get started with the project, I was assigned a competent manager who helped me to distinguish to which parts of the project I should concentrate more than others. I had several reviews with managerial staff and other colleagues before presenting my final report of the project.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As part of the first week during the internship me and other interns that started at the same time as me, we where introduced to the company, its philosophy and the products. To enhance our understanding of the products we where working on, we had a chance to work on the production line for several days,

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I enjoyed my working experience in the company, one of the factors that particularly appeals to me is that it is multinational company with many sites, this gives possibility for change and ability to take part in many different projects. I will definitely try to take part in the graduate scheme in this company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Being that I commuted from where I lived to the place of work to a different city, I did not have the willingness to participate in may activities outside work, but there where opportunities as long as I wanted to. I even had a chance to aid in planning one of such activities, which was health living oriented month.
