    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • In general, I found the internship to be a good learning experience. I gained a heightened understanding of how the corporate world and the consulting industry work, and helped me to improve my capabilities on work environment. I enjoyed the variaty of the work, so there was always different tasks throught the day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like there was a family, because they all treated me very well, it was like I had my friends at work. So my placement was very enjoyable and they all made me feel very comfortable at work and they were always motivating me to be the best of my potential in the role.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I constantly received feedback from my supervisor on the work I was doing. And I was able to express initiative and was treated more like an employee, and less like an intern. If I encountered any problems or had questions, most of my colleagues were happy to help. This helped me to develop my skills as well as identifying where there were areas for improvement.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The job role was very demanding, I was kept busy throughout the placement especially when on the live events. However, this suits my personality because I believed I handled this well, and was able to complete the tasks I was appointed on time. It was sometimes very exhausting but as I was enjoying working there, it was very gratifying at the same time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was kept busy throughout my placement, there was a great deal of responsibility allocated to everyone in the team. But on the first day, I was not expected by my team and so initially I had nothing to do. I had to make decisions regarding communicating with people (athletes and officials).

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As mentioned, the internship was a positive learning experience. From learning simple business etiquette to understanding the technicalities of a project. I have learnt an array of lucrative skills whilst on placement and mostly I have developed my organisational, communication and team working abilities I will certainly build on all these skills in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was very much with my team, although we interacted from time to time, but it was mostly a very friendly atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Aside from the fact I was not expected by my team on the first day it was generally organised well One particular HR session covered how to convert our internship into a graduate offer, which was useful. In the future, I think interns would benefit from the organisation technical skills as many of us were not familiar with it but were required to use it extensively during our projects.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During our induction, we had IT training which covered how to use the intranet, access our e-mails etc. While this was useful, as mentioned we could have benefited from further IT training. It would also be useful to perhaps have soft skills sessions during the induction day. But in general, I think they invested and helped me a lot through my placement.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would certainly apply for a role in the company in future, since I have been asked to support them on events that they hold.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, Interns were involved in lots of social events both at the office and outside. The social scene could not be faulted - as Consulting interns, we were given the most socials. This would both be with our Consulting cohort as well as general intern socials with from those working in the other service lines.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The location has a higher cost of living. However, this is to be expected. But as I stayed at home when at the company, I had no costs. And all the expenses were paid when at events.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • You can easily reach Restaurants, Pubs, Clubs both in walking distance and by tube/bus etc

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Thanks to the other interns who were absolutely lovely, I was able to do many activities, there were also lots of events going on in the city centre. My time was very short with them, however if you are to work for them for a longer period than what I did there are fantastic opportunities to get involved with a wide range of activities outside of work.
