The Role
The work was enjoyable and I was constantly learning new things, every department had a good supply of undergraduates which made the placement fun.
My colleagues relied on my input and actively searched my ideas. I was invited out to team meals and was not left out in anything.
In the first two weeks you are trained to perform your role. After the two weeks, my supervisor or another team member was always there if I needed any help. There was always constant training sessions that covered general topics such as software training which did come in handy. As a undergraduate I was also set a mentor who was there if I could not talk to my supervisor. In the department the undergraduates were also looked after by a senior colleague if we felt we could not talk to our mentor.
I was always kept busy working on multiple projects at the same time, but the work was not so busy that I would constantly be staying behind after work or arriving early.Fridays were the least busiest day as people were winding down for the weekend however there was always things to do whether it be working or training.
I was given a lot of responsibility, first aiding in a project and as the placement went on I was the lead buyer on some projects. I also had certain tasks to do that the colleagues were reliant that the information is correct and on time. However, although I was given a lot of responsibility I always felt assured that I could handle the tasks.
I believe that I improved on my life skills such as presentation, organisation etc, drastically. I am now more confident in communicating. I also felt the more specific training was helpful as some of the things may be used in modules in my final year and some of the training was beneficial in future companies thay I may work for.
The Company
The department expect you to work hard but they also understood about having some fun. There was a weekly football prediction league and we was one of the only department to finish an hour early on Fridays. There was a lot of jokes thrown around the office and social events set up.
In general I thought the placement went very well. However, during my first month I was chasing up people for systems access and I felt that HR could of been more involved in gaining our ideas to improve the placement.
Enough, but if you wanted to get the most out of the training you had to find it on their training site.

I wouldn't mind working Vauxhall in the future but it would not be my first choice of employment due to the lack of training that is available and the lack of graduates at Vauxhall.
The Culture
With over 80+ undergraduates the social was very good. There was always things organised such as cinema, football and going out and although I did not stay in Luton I did not feel left out of the social activities.
Not sure about living, but socialising there was a lot of cheap places to go and usually got special discount due to Vauxhall being one of the main businesses in the area.
Luton although is a rough area, it does have some cheap clubs and restaurants as well as a bowling alley and a cinema. It is also not very difficult to get into London as it is 3 train stops away.
As mentioned above there is things going on with the undergraduates every weekend and some week nights. Also holidays were organised by some of the undergrads. The department did not have many activities due to where people lived and the age but there was xmas events and a few other social activites that were arranged.
