Graduate Submarine Control and Instrumentation Engineering

Location: Barrow (Cumbria)

BAE do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected, on our Graduate Programme, you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Salary: £34,000 + £2,000 welcome bonus  

What you will be doing

As a graduate Control and Instrumentation Engineer you will be part of a growing multi-disciplinary team developing solutions to complex technical questions and in-service upgrades for Submarine platforms within the Engineering Project Group. You will be working across the breadth of the engineering design lifecycle to support the current projects and future bidding activity of the department. You will be assisting in providing professional engineering services to meet the future operational needs of naval platforms, the Submarine business and customer programmes.

Specific activities could include:

  • You will play a pivotal part in suggestions surrounding power engineering, electronic product content, optimise hardware and software design concepts, develop sophisticated design processes and test complex products. Gaining exposure to the entire project lifecycle, you will play a key role in both maintaining our existing systems and developing new technologies.
  • Activities could include assessment of equipment behaviour and fault diagnosis (covering equipment ranging from; smaller electronics to large power distribution equipment such as motors, batteries and variable speed drives.) assessment of new technologies and components, conducting laboratory tests and capturing data, circuit/firmware simulation and modelling, data analysis, and the preparation of technical reports.  
  • This role will provide you with exposure to engineering lifecycle on various submarine platforms. You will be working as a key part of an agile, diverse and multi-skilled team of stakeholders with a common goal to deliver right first time solutions to our customer’s needs.

Skills

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Power Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and/or Telecommunications.
