New Categories Science Placement

In the UK, we offer 12-months placement - starting 1st September 2021 - opportunities to undergraduate students looking to gain practical experience within a vibrant and innovative industrial setting. As part of the scheme, you will be partnered with a mentor, have regular reviews with your Line Manager and work on projects that impact the business.

Training and development is provided throughout the placement with successful applicants having multiple opportunities to develop transferable skills in addition to gaining ‘hands on’ experience in a technical discipline.

As part of the scheme students get a chance to cultivate their independent thinking and problem solving skills in addition to working in and contributing to a team. Cross functional/department working and participation in other research activities is also encouraged, where appropriate. Previous work experience in a practical ‘hands-on’ role would be useful but not essential.

Job Purpose

BATs purpose is to build a Better Tomorrow by reducing the health impact of our business through offering a greater choice of enjoyable and less risky products for our consumers.

The role of Potentially Reduced Risk Product (PRRP) Science is evolving beyond the assessment of the risk profile of non-combustible tobacco and nicotine products relative to smoking. The group now leads the science efficacy assessment of compounds beyond nicotine to build internal scientific knowledge, support regulatory engagement and compliance and consumer claims across BATs Potentially Reduced Risk Products (PRRPs) and new product categories. This is achieved through a weight of evidence approach to support internal company positions, external claims and scientific publications. The approach includes the delivery of the efficacy science from pre-clinical, ‘in-use’ human behaviour and clinical studies to substantiate claims and support regulatory submissions for product launches.
