Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement

Our Industrial Placement scheme offers ambitious, capable undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience working alongside experts in their field.

Why should I choose the Met Office?:

As an Industrial Placement at the Met Office, you will be paid £17,000 pa and have the opportunity to spend 12 months (between July 2019 - July 2020) working full-time based in Exeter at the Met Office but travel to remote sites, with experienced property engineers will also be required.

You will be supporting day to day operations within the property management team, completing risk assessments, verifying method statements and helping with engineering solutions. You’ll also have opportunity to help us develop and deliver some new initiatives such as energy efficiency and air quality.

This Industrial Placement is an exciting opportunity to see first-hand what we do and make a real impact that the Met Office truly values.

Tell me a little more about what you do….:

The Property Management team has responsibility for all mechanical and electrical assets across the Met Office estate which comprises several manned and unmanned sites across the UK. The placement will specifically focus on mechanical engineering including Building Management Systems, water harvesting, generators and chilling plant.

The wider Property Team provides several different functions to the Met Office; Property Project Management, Helpdesk for reactive and planned maintenance on the wider estate, Security and Estates Management. The placement will have an opportunity to find out more about these activities during the 12 months as we are a small, supportive team.

Otherwise, you can expect to hear from us around the 4th April once the hiring manager has reviewed all the applications received. We often receive a high number of applications so it can take a little while to look at each one, but we always let people know the outcome.
