Manufacturing Engineering Placement

This exciting opportunity based in the Manufacturing Engineering department at ASM Assembly Systems, is available on a 13 month work placement for undergraduate students seeking sandwich placements as part of their studies. The anticipated start date for this placement would be July 2018.

The main purpose of this role is to determine how to implement appropriate techniques, processes and procedures and to evaluate production metrics that will lead to process improvement activities. There will be opportunities to identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives that will promote best practice manufacturing solutions and eliminate waste and source key opportunities for change and development.

Your duties and responsibilities:

  • Analyse current working methods and propose and potentially implement improvements to optimise the efficiency, quality and design of the manufacturing processes using system tools.
  • Create, implement, and monitor key performance indicators and metrics within the Manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and present reports/presentations to demonstrate the effect of improvement projects.
  • Providing root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Where applicable, generate project plans for the operational aspect of a project, drive cross-functional groups to ensure tasks are managed to completion.
  • Complete project deliverables as required to agreed targets (time, cost, quality).

Your profile:

  • Currently studying for a degree in Engineering, preferably Manufacturing or Electro/Mechanical qualification
  • A good understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Is self-driven, actively looks for ways to contribute.
  • An interest and willingness to learn Production processes
  • Must be willing to learn from others in the basic use and maintenance of automated products.
  • Believes that good product development includes testing, documentation, and collaboration
  • Has excellent communication and reasoning skills, including the ability to make a strong case for technology choices to all levels of management if and when required.
