Automation Engineering Placement

This exciting opportunity based in the Manufacturing Engineering department at ASM Assembly Systems, is available on a 13 month work placement for undergraduate students seeking sandwich placements as part of their studies. The anticipated start date for this placement would be July 2018.

Automation Engineering is a growing team within the wider Manufacturing Engineering team at ASM. The main purpose of this role is to determine how to improve production in Manufacturing by developing new Automation techniques. Our successful placement student will have opportunities to make fundamental changes to the production process; along with the opportunity to use specialized software to perform tests on various ways to make improvements.

Your duties and responsibilities:

  • Propose and potentially develop new solutions to industrial problems using mechanical and electronic processes and computer technology.
  • To propose and potentially design and build completely new products by integrating various technologies, for example, developing robotic assembly processes.
  • Design, develop, maintain and manage high technology engineering systems for the automation of industrial tasks.
  • Apply electronic and mechanical processes and computers to tasks where the use of human labour may be dangerous or repetitive.
  • Study the feasibility, cost implications and performance benefits of new automation equipment.

Your profile:

  • Currently studying for a degree in Engineering, preferably Manufacturing or Electro/Mechanical qualification
  • A good understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Understanding of microcontroller programming and hardware system design.
  • Knowledge of graphical user interface design using Visual Studio/LabView.
  • Exposure of automated system design, mechanical drawing and integration to the target environment will be an advantage.
  • Must be willing to learn from others in the basic use and maintenance of automated products.
  • Believes that good product development includes testing, documentation, and collaboration.
