A very productive and well organised Spring Insight Programme. I participated in: Skills workshops - personal branding, networking and communication Social events - musical bingo and art exhibition Networking with a range of employees Case studies Informative presentations to learn more about the Corporate Audit division
Gained an insight into Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) and Technology at Bank of America. For GCIB: 1. Networked with senior bankers from M&A, Capital Markets and Corporate Banking. 2. Gained an insight into the firm's strong client relationships via an introduction to an M&A case study. For Technology: 1. Presented a cyber security case study to other Spring Interns. 2. Connected with representatives from across Global Technology.
The Insight involved an Introduction into Investment Banks, the different divisions and an overview of BofA's values and principles. Two days have been designated each to GTS and Global Markets (in my case). The rest of the week also involved talks on resilience, communication practices, personal branding and inclusivity, as well as game nights. The programme was completely online, WebEx was used as the platform.
I really enjoyed my virtual experience at the bank. Initially, due to the virtual nature of the internship, I thought that I would feel disconnected from the bank and not get a real sense of the values, beliefs and culture of the firm. However, I was pleasantly surprised at just how connected us interns were to every area of the bank. We were really included in every way way possible and got to really connect with many people across the bank.
Despite the virtual nature, I really enjoyed the internship, as we managed to connect with more people than we might have otherwise. We completed various projects, both across divisions and regions as well as individually. We were provided with plenty of resources and learning opportunities, and it was extremely encouraged to look into anything you found interesting, as the bank has so many resources available. There were also a few online socials which meant we could still connect to the team less formally.
I wish I could rate my experience more than 10/10. It was an enriching experience for me. My expectation for the internship was by far exceeded. Although, I don't know how a physical internship would've gone, but given the virtual experience I had, I don't think there's more I could ask for. The Bank did a great job in organizing the virtual internship, it was super engaging. In terms of networking and engaging with the people, It was really great as people are always willing to have a chat with you, and connect you with other people too.
