I worked as a software developer on the mobile team. My day to day basis was to attend every morning a daily stand-up on which we talked about what we did the day before and what are we going to do today and then work on creating new things, solving bugs or testing.
My role was very similar to the other software developers in the team, I was taking active part in the daily agile meetings and planning sessions as everyone else. I spent most of the time working on the Customer Notification System, Middleware and a Management Portal, with the tasks varying from modifying the existing functionality to designing and adding new complex features and testing the system end-to-end.
I would work with the Cloud team to create and manage the customer infrastructure using Terraform. I helped develop CICD tools and internal tooling used within the company. We were involved in ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure deployment to our customers. We were consistently working on pushing the boundaries of new technology and ensuring the highest standard of product delivery.
Overall I found my enjoyment of the Placement to be somewhat mixed. The work itself wasn't too bad. Relatively standard, although the codebase itself was quite large and complex, which endentured a steep learning curve. There were also a few highlight projects that I was allowed to work on mostly solo throughout the year. These I thouroughly enjoyed, and brought a great sense of acomplishment when completed. And some resulted in a demo to R&D which I also suprisingly enjoyed ( even with some embarrassing bugs shown live ) However over the year I did have some core design differences with some key memebers of my team. Which I found incredibly frustrating. A good portion of my work at the start was also doing testing or fixing bugs, Which for me was quite monotonous.
I worked as part of the Technical Solutions Team here at cognito where we were responsible for delivering the front-end side of our mobile products. I had the pleasure of working with some awesome team mates and the added bonus of contributing to so many different projects, each impacting the success of our clients in a different way, and it's honestly a shame that the year has to come to an end so soon .
As someone who originally wasn't very interested in undertaking a placement, I was very glad I decided to undertake a placement with Cognito IQ. The work involved was interesting and enjoyable and I had never done this type of work before adding to my level of engagement and interest. I learnt countless new skills and felt I could develop my software engineering competencies and abilities. The variety of work I undertook helped keep the work fresh and I felt like I never stopped learning.
I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of the placement. The on-boarding process was well thought out, given the companies long history of employing placement students. The people at the company are friendly and approachable, and I was always able to get help when I needed it, whether it was technical or personal. There is no shortage of bright and motivated people at Cognito, so I felt that I was in a great environment to learn and further my own development.
I generally enjoyed the placement and was definitely challenged a lot in terms of the work I did. The people were very friendly and I always felt that I could approach them to ask questions. The atmosphere of the office was also very relaxed and everyone had a great work ethic.
I enjoyed my placement as i was able to experience project management and consultancy this year. This has given me the opportunity to work with different teams and know how the company works as a whole. It has also helped me think of my future career goals for when i graduate.
For the most part, the work that I completed was interesting, allowing me to learn things that I would otherwise not have learnt at university. Some parts of the work were less interesting but the good outweighed the less interesting work over the course of the year. I enjoyed working within my team as I got on with them well.
I had such a fun time at cognito iQ. I was given the opportunity to learn so much and to work on big projects for big clients. The staff at Cognito iQ are some of the best people I have meet. There is always someone to chat with or to take a quick break and play a game with.
I really enjoyed learning new technologies and developing both my professional and technical skills. There is always new work and projects coming in, so I was never bored of doing the same work. When there isn't much work to do, we got innovation time, which is an opportunity to learn about new technologies of our choice.
It was a great experience to work as part of the cloud team, get to know the people who were friendly and easy to talk to, and the ability to use the latest technologies in order to meet our team's goals. (using the AWS Cloud Platform) as well as applying other DevOps methodologies Although my role was completely different to what I was studying (Computer Networks), It was a great challenge which in the end helped me pick up new skills, both technical and personal.
I had an excellent and rewarding year at Cognito. The projects and tasks that I worked on were varied and challenging, and my colleagues (both in my immediate team and beyond) were always helpful whenever I required assistance and a pleasure to work with. Overall I really enjoyed my placement year at Cognito.
I quite enjoyed my placement year with Cognito iQ. Throughout the placement year, I worked on the existing software products that company products. That included improving the performance and stability, as well as maintenance to ensure things are working. It was really fulfilling to know the fact that the work I was working on actually impacted and reached the software used in production by the customers.
Working at Cognito iQ has been fun, rewarding and frustrating. The products are very complex - a year simply is not long enough to learn a product throughout regardless of which team you work in. Towards the end of the placement year I have really started to get to grips with the product, it's just a shame the year is coming to an end. I have had plenty of opportunities to explore different systems and languages while having a laugh with the team. While this has been very fun it can at times be incredibly frustrating with Cognito's agile process.
I enjoyed my placement. Being a Technical Solutions Specialist meant I could experience the business and the technical side of the software development process. Developing software products for many different customers was quite exciting and being involved in the front-end side of the software development meant I learnt a lot of web-development techniques and programming languages.
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year here. My team welcomed me straight away and I got on well with all of them, as well as everyone else in the company. It's also great that you're not the only intern there and you can all hang out together and help each other out.
