Overall I really enjoyed the event! Despite the disappointment of the internship being cancelled due to the current climate, BW really went out of their way to organise a great event. Throughout the day, we had a great mixture of larger group sessions, where we would learn more about the history of BW and their different business areas, and smaller group sessions, where we got to chat with recent graduates about everything from exams to office socials. I particularly enjoyed these smaller sessions, as it gave the graduates an opportunity to chat with us and tell us about their experiences at BW so far; as someone who is due to graduate next year, this was especially useful.
I really enjoyed the virtual experience provided by Barnett Waddingham. The day consisted of lots of little sessions explaining the different aspects of the company. It was very educational as the day gave an insight into the business and how it is run. Many employees from different actuarial teams and the recent graduates shared their experiences working for Barnett Waddingham and how the company has helped them with their careers. The employees of the company were friendly and created a relaxed atmosphere throughout the whole day.
My experience with BW was incredibly enjoyable throughout the entire process. I felt that it gave me all the information that I required to inform my decision on where I wanted to work. Furthermore, the opportunity to ask questions was great, firstly it allowed me to learn more about the firm from my perspective but it was also interesting to hear other peoples questions.
I absolutely loved my online interns day with Barnett Waddingham! During the day we had highly informative sessions covering different areas at BW, such as 'Actuarial Consulting' and 'Employer Consulting'. I think the only way to improve the day would be to make some of the sessions more interactive, maybe with a group task like the ones we had during our assessment day. We also had smaller sessions in groups of around 8 throughout the day which was amazing as it created a close-knit environment that I wasn't expecting for a virtual event. It was so disappointing when the internship scheme was cancelled because of the pandemic, but the company managed to fit loads into the day and made us all feel welcome!
The virtual insight day offered was a very positive experience and was conducted superbly by Barnett Waddingham. The organisation of the day was well thought through with both small and large sessions which allowed for many topics to be covered and also the opportunity for questions to be asked from my part. The employees running the sessions were very welcoming and left a very good impression on the company throughout the day. I look forward to applying to their 2021 intake as a result of this.
A very worthwhile experience, where I gained useful information about the career ahead. However, I felt that it was a little long. I almost felt the same material could have been covered in a little less time and there was some repetition. Or they could potentially cut a session or two out. Furthermore maybe having a session where I did some work, maybe worked on a short group task, discussing with other interns and then going over potential answers with an Employee would have been good!
I enjoyed my virtual day with Barnett Waddingham. I thought the small group Q&As were particularly good as the Barnett Waddingham actuaries were really great at answering any questions we had. Furthermore they had a 30 minute Q&A about exams where I learnt so much about the structure of the exams that I didn’t know before. Also the larger sessions were very useful to help us learn about the structure and values of the company.
It was condensed into a day session, however still provided me with information and gave me insight into the company. However, there wasn’t loads of breaks which meant it seemed quite intense, but this is understandable as it must be hard to fit an 8week internship scheme into an 8 hour day! Every talk was interesting and friendly throughout.
I very much enjoyed the virtual experience. Having had my internship cancelled due to COVID-19, the virtual experience was a useful and interactive way to be able to get a better insight into the company. With a variety of talks and many possibilities to ask questions, it made the experience enjoyable and accessible. There was a lot of content presented to us, which I was grateful for given the fact that I was no longer able to do the full 8 week internship.
I have really enjoyed my internship at BW. It has given me a first hand experience of an actuarial career, on both the investment and trustee side. I have had countless opportunities to work on 'real client' work, this made me feel like a valued member of the team. I was able to see where the smaller jobs I did, contributed to the bigger picture and a final product is given back to the client.
I thoroughly enjoyed working for Barnett Waddingham. I had lots of interesting client work to do, the work was varied and enjoyable and required all of the skills which I have learned at uni to be able to complete them. I was never stuck for things to do and as part of the UK wide intern programme was pitted against my fellow summer students in a predictions league and in an investment portfolio game which were both great fun.
Was able to get involved with client work from the first week, really felt part of the team. The tasks assigned to me really gave a good reflection of what a graduate at the firm would be getting involved in. Exposure to both Trustee consulting and Investment consulting with a roughly 50/50 split. Team members were universally helpful and willing to talk me through stuff and explain the broader context.
I thoroughly enjoyed this internship, both from the content of the job, and working at Barnett Waddingham. I enjoyed the mixture of working with the Actuarial and Investment team, which was interesting to see the different contexts they work in, and gave a nice balance of calculation and creative tasks. The majority of work was directly for clients, and I was able to meet partners and managers from other firms.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Barnett Waddingham, being especially grateful of the opportunity to rotate between Actuarial and Investment Consulting practice areas. The assessed summer student exercises provided a variety of work alongside client work, and allowed us to attempt more challenging tasks.
Working at Barnett Waddingham for the last eight weeks has been a pleasure. In such a short period of time, I have felt fully integrated as a valued member of the team, both in terms of the opportunities to become involved in a variety of client work and the effort made by the rest of the Bromsgrove office to welcome me and include me in the social side of life at BW.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 8 weeks at Barnett Waddingham. There were so many opportunities to work on different projects as well as many training sessions throughout the 2 months. It really felt that they were interested in helping us learn and develop skills throughout the internship. It was also good to get the chance to rotate between investment and actuarial work to give you an indication of how the teams differ and what kind of work they get involved in.
During my internship I had a very enjoyable time, from day one the atmosphere in the office was very friendly and I was made feel welcome by everybody. The work I was given was important and I felt as if I had an impact. the tasks were varied so I was not doing the same thing over and over which helped me learn as much as possible. Outside of work I participated in many social events such as 5 a side football, games nights and many more where I got to know people more.
