    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed all of my placement; got better as the time went on.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Having gained the trust of my colleagues, I feel that worked with me and allowed me to assist them on all topics.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At the beginning of the placement, where you would think there would be the most support, I had little. But as I grew into the team around me, I had constant support to help me learn and exceed in my role.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work varied on a day to day basis, based on the amount of work we had in but in general I was fairly busy with tasks.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Responsibility grew through the months of my placement. By the later end of the year, I had full roles that were purely my responsibility and task that I took care of myself and reported to others with results and such.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In the space of a year that I was at Morgan Sindall, I learnt more than I did in the two years I had previously been at university, The amount of practical knowledge in construction is so vast and you will learn everyday, but a majority is not taught when at university so my placement year was the best yet.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We are a very upbeat office that bounces of one another's moods. On a general day to day basis, there was a lot of laughs and fun amongst are work. This allowed a very calm and relaxed working environment where no one was judged.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was provided with a work placement booklet that showed me all the training opportunities and all the units I could cover over the year; that said, there was no one really to enforce the booklet. Therefore it wasn't set-up as well I could of hoped, but I still achieved so much within the year, working alongside others and shadowing work.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was offered all forms of training courses and opportunities, I was signed up to all the internal Morgan Sindall training days and also got my CSCS card and First Aid Training.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a sponsorship for my final year at university and offered employment once I have graduated, based on my grades that I receive.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Myself and the fellow placement year student knew each other from university so we already had a good friendship. This then meshed well with out colleagues and brought them all a new lease of life with some of the younger generation. We enjoyed our Christmas party and a good few social outings after that.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my placement so am unsure of living costs. Socialising within the Cardiff area is neither ridiculously cheap nor expensive, so I'd say a strong average for a night out.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cardiff is great for a night out! So many different places to go in one small city; all usually within a walking distance from each other.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are countless opportunities within the Cardiff area; not necessarily to do with work though.

    4/5
