    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement! The work was both challenging and worthwhile and I really felt that I made a difference whilst I was there. As times my placement was overly stressful, hence not getting a full 10.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I absolutely adored my team in the office and my wider team throughout the UK. They made me feel welcome from the off and really tried to get me integrated in the team quickely. I will be sad to leave them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was not working in the same building as me (not even the same country!) which was at times challenging. He was also on holiday for 3.5 of the 10 weeks, which again made things tricky, however I never felt alone as my team supported me in his absence.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very. I never lacked things to do, whether that be work related or charity related! I definately felt like I was a team member in terms of the work and the amount of work I undertook.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot. I was responsible for sourcing my own work (as LM was remote) and completing in - nobody was holding my hand. I was asked to do work for very senior members of the bank, which I did. And I was in charge of creating documents which will go directly to colleagues,

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot more about time management having been so busy. I have also greatly improved my group work skills (as I don't normally use these in uni) having completed the charity challenge. I undertook a lot of shadowing whilst here, and I now understand more, the benefit of listening to experience.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very social office - we often took lunch together or went out in the evening, however on the flipside there were days when most people worked from home and on those days it was quite lonely here!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It started off rocky - my LM was leaving her role and so I was assigned a new one, but he was miles and miles away. My IT didn't work. I didn't have a phone. The first week was a mess, however after that things picked up and ran smoothly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They already invest in me a lot as I'm part of thier social mobilty scheme.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very. I have applied for referral to thier graduate scheme and am currently awaiting a reply. I really do want the job as I feel this company is a great fit for me personally and work wise,

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! Living with 40 other interns/Scholars meant it was like being back at uni again! I made friends with a whole new bunch of people ( I didn't know anyone before going!) and we did things together pretty much every night!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was during edinburgh fringe to naturally things were expensive, however for the 'Fringe Experience' it is worth taking that hit. Being here during the Fringe has been simply amazing!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I'm not really a 'nightlife' kind of person, so not really qualified to judge! There are lots of clubs and bars and pubs in the city thought - it is Edinburgh after all! However as I mentioned the Fringe was on so even I was never short of things to do!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • With the Fringe on you really are spoilt for choice!

    5/5
