    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship a lot, I have learnt so much about how the bank works and have met so great people and had amazing experiences. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming at the Group and they are really happy to help you out.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all great to me, they gave me pieces of work which would actually be something that I could add to my CV at the end of the internship to say I had helped with real projects.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had lots of support from my team, they helped me to set up shadowing days with other areas of the bank, allowed me to attend meetings and gave me projects to work on. Whenever I was stuck on a project or before / after a meeting that I would likely not be able to fully follow my manager or other people on the team would talk me through it so I got a better understanding than I would have on my own.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was never overwhelmed with work, I had a few projects that would be ongoing, often I would need to wait for email / meeting with someone before I could progress further. At the beginning I found myself occassionally at a loose end, but I would talk to my colleague next to me and ask for work or for them to talk me through what they were doing. One of my colleagues also gave me tasks to do that were just for my own learning when I had some spare time, for example building my own mortgage model on excel.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good level of responsibility during my placement, it was never to the extent that I would feel overwhelmed, however I was given things that were required I would have to try and find out certain pieces of information myself. I was always able to ask for help however and would be pointed in the right direction of someone who would be likely able to answer the questions that I had.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In my degree they would not massively help me, only in the sense of perhaps an improvement in my use of excel, but only because I am not doing a finance / economics related degree. In future I have learnt a lot during my time here, including how the bank operates, financial knowledge and developing my general professional skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a great atmosphere, everyone was friendly and it was always pretty lively and exciting particularly being on the trading floor. Often on Fridays someone would buy lots of ice creams / various treats to share with the team which always boosts morale!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was pretty well organised, we had an induction event where all the interns met each other and we learnt more about Lloyds and what they stand for. I was prepared for where I was going on my first actual day at the office and we had an hour or so meeting with the other interns on my floor before being assigned to our individual desks. We had a banking basics webinar at the end of our first week, however at this point I had met so many people who had spoken to me about what a bank does and then gone into more depth of their particular area, so it seemed strange to me that this was not something organised on the first day or at the induction event.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have felt like they invested in me, particularly when they gave me a bloomberg terminal at my desk with my own login, I was then trained on how to use bloomberg, I also had a lot of shadowing experiences and was taken for coffees where people would teach me about what they did. More generically speaking in terms of development you fill out a score card where objectives are set for you at the beginning of the internship and then this is reviewed mid way through to see where you are at. At the end of the internship you have the opportunity to be refered for a grad scheme, so it is clear that Lloyds want you to learn as much as you can so that they can offer this to you.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are very appealing for me, the grad scheme looks like a great opportunity and structured in a way that would really suit me. I have spoken to quite a lot of graduates now some who are now in their full time roles and they speak highly of the set up that Lloyds has here.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Interns would often go out on a Friday, I was normally going back to my home for the weekend so would not go, however as you often end up living with other interns it's not difficult to go out during the week. My team did not go out lots themselves, we did have a team drinks evening which was a lot of fun, and had monthly floor drinks -the whole of Financial Markets would be invited. This was great for meeting new people and I had some really great nights out.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was in London so as expected London prices, however Lloyds do put you up in accommodation and it's a paid internship so it works out alright.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was great -it was city of London so there are lots of great bars to go, they are expensive is the only downside there. I didn't go out loads because you are working full time and don't want to spend all the money you earn but there was always opportunity for a good night out if you wanted it.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
