    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have very much enjoyed my work here. I feel like I have been a valued member of the team, had plenty to keep busy and lots of opportunities through things such as the charilty challenge to gain experience beyond my role.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel extremely valued by my colleagues and I will miss seeing them all when I have to leave. I don't know a lot of people here due to the size of the building, but everyone working in the OCT risk team with me have been very welcoming and helpful and I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to work with them and get tho know them

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Unfortunately between moving house, illness and holidays I have not had much time with my line manager but when she has been here, she has taken the time to see me and I have found our time talking valueable to my time here. I don't feel like I have had a lot of support, but I prefer to work that way anyway and I have always found support from someone when I have needed it.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I feel it has been reasonably well balanced. Naturally in work your workload will change over time and I have had as many very busy days as I have very slow days. The only thing that could have been done to improve this would be to have more Ad-Hoc/Optional tasks provided to me.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a project which I have full control over which I think is absolutely fantastic experience and has made me get really involoved in the project as I know it all rests on me and I want to have something to present which I'm proud of.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having the experience will make me more confident in taking tasks on in the future. I have had the chance to learn from mistakes which I can take forward, as well as the chance to learn what works. It will assist me in all future interviews and jobs to some extent.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My last placement was in a telephony centre which didn't have a particularly nice atmosphere to it. This has been completely different and is an atmosphere I would be more than happy to work in long term, everyone seems hard working and happy, and the colleague engagement team is fantastic.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My only complaints would be the time waiting to find out where your placement will be, and my first day where despite contacting my line manager in advance, when I got to the front desk security did not know to expect me, they contacted my line manager and I waited over 30mins for her to come down and meet me at reception. From this point onwards though organisation has been fine.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say the placement itself is the investment as they give us an opportunity to get real work experience as a high band member of the business. Other than that, allowing us to take time out of our regular working day to take part in the charilty challenge is also good inverstment.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As much as I have enjoyed the placement, I would recommend working here to others but unfortunatley as I have to commute from Sheffield, after 8 weeks of doing so I can safely say that long term, commuting to Leeds everyday would simply be too much for me. Employment prospects would therefore increase if there was more work close by to me but I did not enjoy my placement in Sheffield as much as this one.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Thanks to the Charity challenge, I have had the opportunity to get to know the other intern at my centre, and also speak to interns at other centres on my charity team. As I commute though, there has not been any scene other than that for me, but this would be hard to fix.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I have been living at home and commuting at the cost of £10.80 a day with 1hour 45mins travel time each way. The fact that I have to pay all of the costs upfront and then apply to get the funds back (and that is only the funds above £350) is ridiculous considering other interns who have the ability to move away get accomodation for free which will cost the company a lot more than my travel, but I have to be at home as I am a carer for my father. Living costs are fine but I was surprised to see the wage has not increased at all since my placement last year despite minimum wage and cost of living both increasing.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • N/A. Commuted so would not have been able to stay over and find out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Again this is due to my situation and the fact I have to commute I suspect, but I had to miss networking events due to them being too late for me to get back and get my stuff ready for my 6am start the next morning. If overnight accomodation was offered to me on the days where networking events/activities were taking place this would be better.
