    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I did enjoy the internship. I was set a good amount of work which kept me busy throughout the days and I was constantly kept on my toes. I was working in a really friendly team and was able to gain a good insight into Commercial Banking.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues always took time out to help me. My line manager was particularly good with me and got me involved as much as possible. I was able to produce a range of pieces of work and all were well received and made me feel valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Line manager only actually out of the office most of the week but he would call me daily to catch up and make sure I was on track and help me whenever I needed it. Other members of my team would also check I was fine on a regular basis and so I always felt very well supported.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was never a point when I didn't have something that I could be doing. The nature of the projects I was doing meant I could always do something and kept busy meaning I never got bored and didn't know what to do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Really good with giving me responsibility. I was able to attend meetings with senior management, important external stakeholders and then set pieces of work that I had to make my own and which provided real value.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Won't help with my degree and don't think my degree really helped me in my internship. However I did pick up skills that are going to be valuable in the work place and I am now more professional as a result.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really nice place to work. Everyone is friendly and always willing to help you out. Was made to feel welcome immediately so I settled quickly and built some great relationships within the office.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Not the best. The success of my internship basically came down to my line manager. I can't help but feel there wasn't that much organisation in place and if he hadn't been so good in giving me projects the internship wouldn't have been very good.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Had some online training but didn't think they were particularly good. I did have the offer of visiting and shadowing other parts but in the end I had too much work on. In hindsight I think there should be more training put on for all the interns/scholars in a particular office.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If successful in your internship you are referred onto the graduate programme. There are wide range of programmes and I would very much like to be offered a place however I am not sure I was pushed too hard in my current job area.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Fairly okay social scene. We basically all lived together so that made us go out together and things but there was nothing else really laid on for us but I guess that is to be expected. My team personally didn't socialise that much outside of work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fully subsidised living accomodation which is amazing of Lloyds to put on, the living accomodation is also in walking distance so no cost of transport. That made it incredibly cheap and Bristol for living/going out isn't particularly expensive.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Could have been better. The problem with interning over the summer is that is when no students are about and clubs are at their deadest. Also it takes time to find out where is good and where is not.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Didn't really have any. There was one that I recall but that was in London and wasn't worth the travel. Could be improved if it wasn't so Londoncentric and they tried to get the regions more involved.

    2/5
