    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really great and welcoming team, and although at times the work was slow, the majority of days I felt like a crucial member of LBG.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so - they all appreciated my help and were chatty and sociable. Our Friday afternoon lunches did great for team building.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager did his best to make sure I was fully integrated into the team, and when he went on holiday passed on duties to someone else. Guidance was also provided from colleagues who had done the graduate scheme etc.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied and was dependant on work load. However, due to the nature of work - if I had little to do one of the relationship managers would take me along to observe a meeting

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had 4/5 projects that were mine to complete, and with 1 week to go I have 1 ongoing. The rest of the time I picked up work from those around me.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It has given me a clearer view of what I want and do not want to do in life. Talking to people on the graduate scheme and who have recently rolled off was interesting in planning my future with LBG.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • MM shared the floor with various SME units, but that is as much as I know about the other business areas. More integration should be encouraged across the floor. This is something that I heard was going to happen more in the future (joint Christmas night out etc). Within my team however, I could not fault the atmosphere. Jovial and friendly yet hardworking. But never not up for a laugh. We also had team lunches every Friday which was a nice touch,

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We never found out where we would be until far too late in my opinion - really you should be telling people where they are going to be spending the sumemr at least a month before the start date. On arrival however, my line manager had a programme of what he wanted me to do. So I could hear my objectives from day one. I also was able to get involved in many other projects and meetings day to day.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given the opportunity to give a 'students opinion' on various projects surrounding universities that the team was doing. Since it was an area I am familiar with - I felt like I could be honest. I also was afforded the ability to travel to work with other teams and to London for a reception with Andrew Bester, Head of Commercial Banking.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The prospect of receiving a referral is exciting and I will have to consider my options. If I were not to take it, it would be becuase of alternate career ambitions. Nothing against LBG or reflection on my internship.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was placed at home in Glasgow, and was the only other intern/scholar here (in the whole 6-storey office building!) - therefore social scene amongst placement students was non-existant. This score is only redeemed with the good social scene amongst colleagues: weekly lunches, invitation to drinks event in October, running Great Scottish Run 10K as a team. I think placing someone where there is no other interns is risky, and could easily have been quite a depressing time.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home, and used to Glasgow and where to go/not go

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • After work drinks were not a thing, unlike when I was interning in London. This is, as I said, I think due to no other scholars/interns and only 2 Grads that I met. Nightlife was with friends from school and I know it well.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As a team we are running the Great Scottish Run 10K at the start of October. I have also been invited to a Games Night to be held at the end of October.
