    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Xerox and feel I am able to take a lot away with me when I leave. I have learned a great deal about the working environment and the industry itself which I feel will benefit me when I graduate. I have been extremely lucky with the projects I have taken part in, particularly the events that I have been a part of. My one criticism of this job role it the balance of work; the work load was either exceptionally heavy of very light with very little regular tasks to carry out on a routine basis.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The majority of managers I have worked with have been extremely encouraging and supportive. When a job is completed well positive feedback is always given. There is a great working environment at Xerox.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied drastically through out the year from one extreme to the other: Some days I would have very little to do which could be demotivting while other days I was busy from 8am-6pm. This wass dependant on whether there was an upcoming event or if it was time to publish market share results. However the managers I worked with were very understanding of this, for example if they knew there was little work I would be allowed to leave early and if I had done a lot of overtime it would always be appriciated.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsability to manage my own time. Some work I carried out was sent to senior managements world wide and I was given responsability to use social media on behalf of Xerox. During the preperations for events I was handed projects that were crutial to the success of the event and due to the busy nature of planning an event this was not always over seen and possilbe to check with managers. While I had responsability I was always aware that help was avaiable if it was needed and I always had someone to ask questions to if I didn't feel I had the authority to make a decision that was required.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel like I have learned so much from this year, not only about Xerox itself but how a global company functions on a daily basis and how to conduct myself with in it. These skills, I feel, will put me at an advantage when entering the world of work as a graduate and will give me greater confidence when this time comes. I also think that this year has provided me with a better focus going in to my final year of University and a more profesional approach to my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a proffesional attmosphere in the building I worked in however the people I worked with ensured it was never dull.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the use of Students at Xerox is great, you are given profesional responsibility but hep is always available. I think the indroduction of new students each year works well as does the recrutment process. I think by being involved in recruting your replacement gives you a good insight for when you come to apply for jobs in the future.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are a number of compulsary online training session that are required when you start. There is also a lot of opportunity to take further courses online through out the year if you wish. I was also included in a number of webinars for Market Inteligence..

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be very intrested in a graduate job with Xerox and I think they offer a good method for managing this with current placement students to keep in mind past students that would like to return.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was always something going on amongst the students outside of work, and even as a commuter it was hard not to be involved in the social side to working here.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Commuting made it far less expencive but socialing varied from very cheap loacally and very expensive if we went into Central London for a night out.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was limited in the town itself but there were a lot of options near by. It could be as good or as bad as you make it.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Staff nights out were alwaus popuar and often left to the students to organise. There was also sports oppertunities and charity events that you could take part in if you wanted.
