The Role
Overall I really enjoyed the internship. The office has a great atmosphere and the people (interns and employees alike) are, without exception, extremely friendly.
I was given increasing responsibility over the course of the internship which I felt was in line with my progress. However, at times I felt that there wasn't enough work in my team to go around!
I was given a great deal of guidance by HR when I needed it and they supported me throughout the internship to get what the best out of it. I would have liked to have gotten more guidance from my direct management. Having said that, the slight lack of guidance did make me feel trusted.
The workload was never overbearing. Most days I had a good amount to get on with but I would have preferred to have had slightly more on average.
I was given (what I perceived to be) an appropriate amount on responsibility and I thoroughly enjoyed taking this on.
I developed skills mainly surrounding attention to detail and analysing large sets of data using Excel and other programmes for financial data. The former in particular will most definitely be an aid to my degree and I feel both are transferable skills that would be extremely beneficial in many types of careers.
The Company
The atmosphere was positive and very friendly. No one, on my floor at least, worked overly long hours so the floor had a generally calm feel to it.
The internship was very well set up in terms of exposure to other areas of the business and social opportunities. However, I would have liked more structure in the work I undertook on a day to day basis.
There were various activities organised to develop our skills away from the desk. I feel that the business really invested in us as interns.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
The opportunity to stay within M&G is very appealing to me as a result of this internship.
The Culture
There were a number of organised events, mainly around the beginning of the internship. They were great and although there were quite a few I wish there had been more! We had the chance to socialise with current employees and those on the graduate scheme, as well as with the interns exclusively. We also organised social meeting amongst ourselves outside of work.
The cost was high. Having said that, being at uni in London this was not a surprise.
Lively nightlife every night of the week.
Lots of organised events outside of work inc but not limtited to organised charity runs, other sport socials, pub quizzes and summer parties.
