The Role
I have really enjoyed each of my 8 weeks working at M&G and all of the different projects that it entailed.
I was welcomed into the team immediately and through introductory meetings with everyone on the desk I quickly got up to speed on the role. There was a limitted amount of work I could help with on the team due to liscencing and difficulty of certain databases and programs. However there was still plenty of work I was able to assist with and I felt this was always much appreciated.
The team always gave me enough support on each piece of work and made it clear I could always ask questions if I became confused. In addition there were weekly catch up meetings to check if you are happy with the level and difficulty of work.
I would have appreciated a little bit more work day to day, however I understand that most of the team's work was too complex for them to teach me in 8 weeks.
I was able to do my own research and then write it up and format it before it was sent internally to divisions within M&G. For example, I was given the responsibility to produce a presentation about a particular fund and then to present it to another M&G employee.
The knowledge and skills I have gained through this internship will definitely help me pursue a career within asset management.
The Company
There is a great culture at M&G that can really be felt in the office, everyone I met was friendly and willing you to succeed as well as enjoy yourself.
The internship was very well organised, not only the 8 week position at a desk, but also introductory meetings with employees in the team, insight talks into the divisions of M&G, charity events and intern socials after work.
There were insight talks for the first two weeks that gave you an overall knowledge of the asset management industry.

It is possible to be given a position on the graduate placement from the internship, however you do not find out if you have been successful in securing a place until after the internship.
The Culture
Yes, a couple of us went for drinks after work on a Friday, although the main social events were organised by HR.
I didn't live in London.
There are a lot of good bars and pubs in the city, especially close to the river.
A few, such as a pub quiz and a cricket afternoon.
