The Role
My placement was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I got to work with various teams within the Informations Systems department, as well as engage with business teams in day to day work.
My colleagues were always supportive and gave me credit for all my work and contribution. I was trusted with critical tasks throughout.
My manager was always available if needed and was always on hand to give help/advise if need be. Supportive throughout, never felt the need to seek help elsewhere.
Relatively busier as the year went on, with at times juggling multiple tasks at the same time. This was always a positive as it means I was never left without work or needing to find ways to pass time.
I was always given responsibility with business critical tasks, particularly as my placement went on, and trusted to deal with issues and liaise with business users personally,
I have developed skills I could not have developed through study or education. Dealing with real-time real-life issues, I had to be able to prioritise business needs while using multiple technical skills I garnered during my time at M&G to reach the best solution for all parties.
The Company
The people at M&G are great and the atmosphere is fantastic. Everyone is super friendly and gets along together very well, with no sense of strict hierarchy or corporate levels. Ever is approachable and would encourage you to approach them too.
There were multiple training insight early on with regular feedback with my manager and HR appraisal sessions. Once involved in my team's day-to-day working I became more and more a part of the team rather than a placement, and hence the placement became less "structured" and more a real work experience.
Multiple insight sessions into the workings of the front office were interesting early on, though more opportunities to go on training courses may have been beneficial at times.

Interns and Placements who work hard and shine in the office are always welcomed back to M&G, with a very strong Grad scheme in place once university is over.
The Culture
Particularly during the summer, when all the summer interns as well as year placements were at M&G, there were multiple social events both set up by M&G and by the interns amongst ourselves, which was thoroughly enjoyable - particularly as the office is in the hear of the City of London!
As per above, being in London comes with all its social perks - though also comes with its expenses!
The London night-life, awesome if not expensive!
Multiple sports and social events, particularly over summer are offered, many of which are subsidised by the company. These vary from Softball, to Dodgeball to Football and more!
