The Role
Working in different areas of the business in 3 months blocks made the placement very valuable in terms of experience as this allowed me to learn many different skills; making the best possible use of the year spent with them.
My collegues were very helpful when training with them and treated me like one of the team.
There was always support available when needed particularly when training. This was very helpful in learning to carry out tasks efficiently while also improving my generic business skills which will be useful in future jobs.
My placement was well managed to ensure my time was well used. When training the workload was decreased but was steadily increased as I became more competent with the tasks.
I often had large amounts of responsibility, especially when working weekends with no management staff were in but there was always someone available to help if needed.
The placement has given me an insight into how businesses in the food industry operate which compliments my studies excellently. I have learned many generic skills such as working under pressure and multi tasking; these will be very helpful in future jobs.
The Company
The office was often relaxed but understandably became more rushed in busy periods such as christmas time.
The placement was well planned with an excellent basis for training in each area acting as a good opportunity to gain a range of work experience skills.
Working in 4 different areas over the year meant a large amount of training was required as a training period would be required for each new job. MMUK therefore invests highly in training, helping to make the placement more benficial to the student.
Financial Bonus
Future employment with MMUK is very appealing as they value their workforce highly making the company a pleasure to work for.
The Culture
There is a good social scene between colleagues, I currently play football with friends from work every week while also being involved in other social outings.
The cost of living and socialising in the area is fairly high in comparison to other areas, however the salary reflects this.
Cambridge is 20 minutes from MMUK which offers brilliant nightlife with numerous pubs, clubs, theatres and comedy clubs.
There are many activities available to get involved in: I currently play football with work collegues; while with a little research I was able to find another football team to join and have also joined a band. Cambridge in particular offers a range of activities to suit your interests.
