    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I considered this internship to be an extremely enjoyable experience, as I had the opportunity to not only develop my professional skills and experience working in the industry, but also to be part of a network of great people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Throughout my summer there, I have constantly felt valued and appreciated by my colleagues, from all seniority levels, and I felt like my work was contributing to the development of the company.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • In terms of support received, it came not only from my direct manager and/or project supervisor, but also from all my team mates and colleagues from other teams or senior management. The culture at GS is focused on supporting your peers and ensuring information and guidance is readily available and is provided when needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As a summer intern, there is a short period of time in which you need to perform a number of different tasks. Every day was different and everyone managed their schedule as they thought best as long as they were achieving their goals for the day and ensuring critical tasks were prioritised. Depending on how many projects you wish to be involved in, your daily schedule can vary.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Even though I had heard about interns being given responsibility from the first day, I was still a bit unsure about it. That is in fact very true, as I was treated as a full time member of the team and of the company and hence I had corresponding responsibilities, which made me feel valued and gave me a sense of accomplishment when I was able to give back to the company and help them develop better tools.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learned a great deal during my internship here, both technical skills, but also personal and soft skills. I believe I can now manage my time and other people's expectations better, I can perform more effectively and autonomously, and I can make better use of the resources available to me. My presentation, communication and networking skills have improved and I have learned how to learn in order to perform better and be more innovative. I believe these are all skills that will help me not only in my degree, but also in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was based on collaboration, communication and a general desire to constantly improve and innovate. Also a lot of fun since you ended up forming great friendships !

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation aspect of this internship was great, all of the interns knew exactly what our schedule was, where we had to be and what we had to do, clear contact points based on our different needs and in the case of any issues, they were dealt with effectively and in a timely manner.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe the firm has invested a great deal in training and personal, as well as professional development. From having the opportunity to interact with senior management and learning from the experience of the people who helped shape the strategic direction of the company, to having a number of technical and soft skills workshops, we have managed to develop a robust set of skills over a very short period of time. As if that was not enough, if we were willing we could also sign up to more workshops and trainings that proved to be of interest. Constant development is encouraged and there are endless means by which this can be achieved.

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Extremely appealing as I look forward to continuing my development there and helping the company prosper.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had a number of company social events during summer, which helped forge bonds between the interns, and not only. Also, the different networks available provided invaluable networking opportunities.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was living in student halls over the duration of my internship so the usual price. As I preferred to spend more time with my friends and colleagues, I mostly ate in town so that raised my expenses. I believe costs are driven by the person spending and can vary between £1200 and £2000 per month including rent, travel and living expenses.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London, I worked next to St. Paul's Cathedral and lived in Mile End, 4 stops away on the central line, it was great! There are different scenes, always something to match any taste, from bars to clubs, from movies to plays, from classical music to rock music!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, definitely so. I was constantly getting involved in different networks, trying to see as many shows as possible, and also have time to spend with my friends and take care of my health and exercise.
