    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working within the Risk Architecture team and getting to meet everyone working within the wider Risk division. I also enjoyed all of the activities with the other interns.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were quick to comment on the quality of my work and give their input on how I could improve the scope of my project.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given good guidance initially from my line manager about the project I had to complete and access to documentation. The brief for my project changed many times and by many different people, which was a little disruptive to the work I was already completing. My line manager then moved to Brighton from Halifax, meaning the communication was a little difficult and feedback became more sparse.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The project I was given was incredibly broad, however because it was not involved in the team's 'Business as Usual' function, I was often having to work around people's busy schedules in order to talk to them and get the information I needed. I often had to plan calls a week in advance, and the busy holiday period did not help this either, meaning that my work often ground to a halt for several hours. Unless I motivated myself to research more documents, or begin a new area ahead of schedule, I would not have been half as productive.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't given the responsibility of any 'Business as Usual' practices. Perhaps I should have asked more persistently to be involved in these, but I felt it might have benefited my project work to have sat on some of the calls with other teams in the bank.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The things I learnt were primarily using software such as PowerPoint and Visio. I also learnt how to research and reach out to many different teams within the bank. For my Maths degree, there was not enough work with Excel or numerical and quantitative skills. For the roles in finance I want to apply for it was useful to learn how the customer's data is collected and also how it is used in decisioning processes

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very helpful and friendly

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Good project but because there was no real prior experience with interns within the team the brief was not always clear. Travel etc were easy and training was good

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My line manager was determined to help me set goals and achieve them, as well as learn more about the industry in general.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Lloyds is a great place to work, but I wouldn't consider a position in Risk in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This was the best bit about the internship.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Transport would have been expensive if I hadn't organised a car share with some of the Industrial Placement students.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Halifax is awful, but Leeds is great. It was good that you put the interns in Leeds.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were with the inters and Industrial Placement students. My team was not very sociable and was very small, so there was limited activities organised outside of work.
