    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The summer internship is an excellent opportunity to gain a sense of what Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs is about. The structure of the programme enables us to have a complete and well rounded view of the firm. One quickly realise that the bank puts a great emphasis on personal development, which made the internship a truly rewarding experience for me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The firm has a great culture of feedback. Colleagues value our work and are always willing to give a constructive feedback to help us succeed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The first week of training was very helpful because not only it equipped us with various technical tools but also introduced us to the culture of the firm that gravitates around teamwork and excellence. Meanwhile, we had several training sessions and speaker series during the summer

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the strong deal flow in M&A at Goldman Sachs almost every intern who rotated in the advisory group was exposed to a live transaction. These transactions kept us busy throughout the summer.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Interns are given a great level of responsibility. Colleagues were not afraid to get us even more involved when we did well on previous projects. Meanwhile, we always had a supervisor that reviewed our work, which is also a good safety net.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I study finance, the technical skills around valuation and accounting that I developed during the internship will help me in my degree.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very friendly and professional. Colleagues and fellow interns did not hesitate to help us out when we encounter problems during the internship.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The structure and organisation of the 10-week internship programme was excellent. Every training session or speaker series had a purpose that was well identifiable and beneficial to us. There was a good balance between technical and soft skills training.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm heavily invested in us by for instance contracting highly regarded coaches in the the City for our training sessions. Also, there is a great willingness from seniors in the firm to actively participate in the programme via interviews and round tables.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment propects are very appealing in the Investment Banking Division as the level of activity is picking up and the firm is constantly looking to attract and retain the best candidates.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is an exceptional atmosphere among fellow interns that didn't hesitated to help each other out. We also organised get-together events to share our experience and exchange best practices.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London remains an expensive city. However, the firm covered the cost for our after-work events.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The City of London is a very vibrant and lively place. This part of London has a lot to offer for the Nighlife.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were involved is community teamwork activities outside of work and had several opportunities to network with other colleagues and fellow interns.
